I'm no shy guy, says Kunal

Kunal Kapoor, a Vasant Park resident, always wanted to be behind the camera. “Direction is my real passion. I want to make films one day,” says the 23-year-old. When asked why is he playing the boy-next-door Varun in Remix, he says, “I just wanted to try my hand at acting, so I auditioned for the show and was chosen to play the role of Varun.”

This former call centre employee adds, “Acting has also been a great learning experience. I have become more mature and responsible. It’s nice when people on the street recognise you and ask for autographs.”

Kunal, who loves making trips to Lonavala and also to Goa on his bike, says, “The viewers will see a more confident Varun in the second season. He will no longer stammer, wear smart clothes and might even have a new girlfriend.”

About his future plans, Varun says, “Though I want to move to direction, I also want to continue acting, especially in Remix as it’s my first show.”

She adds the role of Latika just fell into her kitty. “I had auditioned for a show for a company called Rose Audio Visual. I was surprised when I learnt that I was chosen to play the character of Latika, the daughter of the principal of Maurya Heights.”

Telling us more about her second avtaar in the second season which began this month, Mansee says, “Latika has got new friends and though her character has transformed slightly, she still remains the bad girl. I just hope my viewers like the new Latika.”

Mansee, who is happy playing Latika at the moment, says she wants to make a mark in Bollywood. “I want to be recognised as a good actress in the future. I am also looking forward to working with Ram Gopal Varma,” she concludes.

Thanks Sangit for sharing that article. Not bad Remix cast are in news these days. Nice to know more abt each characters apart from the main characters in Remix.

Right Kanak, Shyla treats her more like a servant. I wonder how Latty is taking all that, as it is not the Latty we saw in season 1. I think Latty will tolerate all this till Shyla succeed in her plans, then she will surely plan something against Shyla. Waiting for Latty to get back on Shyla. I will be fun to see two bad gals getting on each other.

I think Latty had some plan against the four at the end of season 1. She wanted to get back on each of the four & her first was target was Yuvi. I wonder what she is going to do. Hey guys what abt Tia's mom, that seems to have faded along with Season 1.

Bindaas is the one word to describe the awesome foursome from Remix, the music serial on STAR One. Very much like their screen avatars of Tia, Anvesha, Yuvi and Ranvir, the four young ones — Shweta Ghulati, Priya Wal, Raj Singh and Karan Wahi — are the hip ’’ happening faces of the small screen. Here’s what they told Goodlife on their whirlwind trip to the city on Saturday.

Shweta (Tia) — Having done a film (Detective Nani), I find television work very taxing. Not only does it mean very long work hours but also a whole lot of fast work since we have to produce software for the daily one-hour show. But I am also very comfortable doing television. Despite the fact that the Remix contract doesn’t allow me to do anything else, I signed it on because I knew what I was getting into, I knew how big Remix would be. Also, dancing is my biggest passion and this serial being all about music and dancing, I said yes straightaway and I have been enjoying every moment on the sets.

Anvesha (Priya) — I have never planned anything in my life. I always wanted to be Steffi Graf and believed I had her slice backhand and strong forehand. I also used to defeat all the boys in school but I soon realised that passion remains passion and doesn’t become a job. So I moved on to modelling and did work for big fashion labels, like that of Ritu Kumar and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Then Remix happened and I had to colour my hair red for the character of Anvesha. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I do regret it, but then I become happy when I see girls in Bangalore colouring their hair like me. As for the language, my character is Bengali, but I don’t really have to speak the language on screen.

Raj (Yuvi) — I did my law course from Symbiosis but showbiz is something I always wanted to do. I was shortlisted for the MTV VJ hunt and also went on to do some VJing for Zee Music. I also did a couple of music videos like Leena Leena and Kabhi aar kabhi paar. But after that life became Remix. I must admit apart from the love for music, I do not relate to my character at all. But then it’s a job I do and I am ready to do the saas-bahu serials also if needed.

Karan (Ranvir) — I am the youngest of the four and will turn 19 on June 9. So I am constantly pampered on the sets. They treat me like a kid and I love it that way. I am doing a course in business administration. But now with this acting thing on, business has become secondary. I have also done other stuff like played cricket for the state, played football and been the only guy to play drums in my school. But now it’s only Remix and I hope it continues that way...

Remix girl Shweta Gulati, aka Tia Ahuja, makes her entry into Bollywood in a Romilla Mukherjee film, Detective Naani. Shweta is starring opposite Amit Verma, of Hotel Kingston fame; both were seen together in Shagun, on Zee TV.

“It is a masala movie, with a little bit of comedy, suspense, thriller and a love story. It is about a naani, played by Ava Mukherjee (who features in the Himalaya Ayurvedic products ad). Amit and I play teenage characters in the film. Naani is the central character and I am her best friend,” said Shweta.

Naani with a twist

The actress plays the role of a young girl who lives in her own world. She is into books and doesn’t have friends. “I play a very different character, unlike myself. Yet, it’s a nice role and I enjoyed it. My name is Neeti in the film,” said Shweta.

The film has some cute moments - like the naani trying to learn karate and dancing. Amit plays Rohan, a rich, spoilt guy with attitude, who Neeti hates. And the usual twist is that they are chat friends, who have never met. The small love story between the two begins in naani’s house.

Zimmedar kaun?

The suspense in the film is when Nani discovers a dead body in the building and investigates the case. Her two grandchildren, along with Neeti, help her solve the problem.

“It’s a fun film, and I am waiting for it to release,” said Shweta. The film has its share of song and dance sequences. “The promos of the film are out and Avinash Gowarikar is doing the publicity for the film,” she said. Detective Naani is expected to release in February next year.

“Work on the film started two years back, but was delayed. Financial problems were part of the reason,” she said.

Shweta had no plans to get into the big screen; so, how did the film happen? “This film just happened. When I was shooting for Shagun, Romilla and Jolly Mukherjee called, saying they want me to do a commercial. I met them and auditioned for the ad, and then they told me they had signed me for their film! They told me it was a tailor-made role; and I am the Neeti they were looking for.”

“I actually replaced Mamata Jhaveri (seen in Babul Supriyo’s music video, Sochta hoon). I have no clue why she was dropped,” said Shweta.

Amit, who had already been selected for the role, said, “It was very stressful in the beginning, with a lot of breaks happening between shoots and as the film getting delayed. My expectations from the film weren’t that great. But now I am very happy and optimistic.”

Shweta has no plans of acting in films, though she is being offered a few. “I am actually happy with Remix, and since I am bound by contract, I won’t be doing anything else. I have never given Bollywood a serious thought - unless something big comes my way. Till then, it’s television for me,” chuckled Shweta.

Dear Shahid, “duh” basically means dumbo. My creative director coined the phrase Hey Bhaggu. She used to use it with her friends during her college days.

Is Priya Wal as rebellious and bold as Anvesha of Remix? — Aakash
I am as confident and naughty as Anvesha, but I think off late I have also become rebellious like her. I guess playing Anvesha has made me forget Priya. I’ve totally gotten into the skin of the character.

You and Yuvi make a great pair together, but off-screen are you seeing anyone? —- Sana
Dear Sana, I am very much single. We have been working like dogs and have no time for anyone. However, if anyone is interested in dating a red-haired rebel, he’s more than welcome.

If you had to choose between a big banner film and Remix which one would you choose? — Priyanka
Dear Priyanka, I’ve got a couple of offers, but I’m not interested in typical Bollywood films. I would rather do a film like White Noise or Monsoon Wedding. Such films excite me.

How did you get into acting? — Jasmine
I was modelling in Delhi, and that is when I got this offer to audition for Remix. The moment I heard about the character I was auditioning for, I got excited. I came down to Mumbai, did the audition and got selected.

How different/ similar are you from Anvesha? —- Bareen Tramboo
Dear Bareen, I think the only major difference between Priya and Anvesha is that Priya is not as over the top as Anvesha.

If you had the chance to change one thing about Anvesha, what would it be? — Yasmin
Dear Yasmin, I would make sure she doesn’t fall for the same guys as her mom!

What’s next after Remix? — Mohsina
Dear Mohsina, I don’t know. I always wanted to play Tennis, and never thought of modelling. And when I became a model, I never decided to act. So life has been full of surprises for me. I’m having a great time doing Remix, but I don’t know what the future holds.

Don’t you think Remix has been going slow lately? — Sahil
Dear Sahil, Remix is a one-hour daily show, and it’s the first time such a unique concept has been tried on television. I don’t think the show is getting slow, it’s just that the current track is focusing on the love angle. But the masti is going to double very soon!

What kind of off-screen chemistry do you have with your co-stars? — Renuka
Dear Renuka, All of us hang out together most of the time, and we know each other really well. We do have our share of fights, but they are not that dramatic. Everyone is helpful and cordial.

I was taken a back when I read Meher is paid the highest i.e more than the main characters. So it is quite tough to believe this info. But if it is true, then I think the difference b/w Meher's pay & the rest might be very small say a thousand or even less. Even I wonder y is she doing a supporting role. But could be that she doing a supporting role & that is y she is paid so much after all she is a super model, right???

hey this doesnt make sense... meher cannot be payed more that what tia is payed coz tia does more work than she does...
and waise bhi we havent much seen meher aorund than shweta gulati...

Hey guys, got to see Ira of Remix in a serial that is aired in Sony around the same time Remix is shown. I was browsing through the channels during the Remix break & stopped when I saw this very familiar face. Only later I realized it was Ira of Remix. I am sorry no idea which is that serial, but sure it is Ekat's serial. I saw her name when they played the serial song & I immediately changed the channel. Just hate her serials & never bother to know her serials name.

Model-turned-actress Priya Wal who features as the rebel Anvesha in the teen drama Remix (Star One) has coloured her hair-shocking red for the role.

“Most people think I am wearing a wig, but it’s not. I have styled and coloured my hair to suit the character,” she says.

Ironically, her on-screen persona is a cause of consternation off-screen. Her father, Harsh Wal, is the principal of Lovedale School in Ooty.

“And here I am doing exactly what my father does not want the students do. In fact when I bagged this role there was this thing of what will his pupils tell him. His own daughter playing a student rebel! Some have even asked him about it at Lovedale.

He did have his reservations. But I am, after all, only acting the role of Anvesha in Remix,” says Wal, who studied at Mayo, Ajmer.

Produced by Rose Audio Visual, Remix, a daily teen drama, has four main students Anvesha, Yuvi (Raj Singh Arora), Ranvir (Karan Wahi) and Tia (Shweta Gulati) from different backgrounds who come together to form a music band called Remix.

Maurya High, the school where it is set, has been created at the Kamalistan Studios.

“From the dorm to the classroom to the staff room, there has been great detailing for the show,” says producer Srishti Behl Arya (Guns & Roses, Lipstick, Jeet). “As most of the cast consists of newcomers, we put them through a month-long workshop of acting, dancing, dialogue delivery before the shoot,” adds Arya.

Both Arora and Wahi are newcomers while Gulati was seen in the soaps Shagun and Kyun Hota Hai Pyarr. She used to also co-anchor Pardey Ke Peechay, which takes a look at the world of TV stars. “I could not manage doing Pardey Ke Peechay along with the serials. There was no time left that’s why I had to quit the show,” says Gulati.

Remix, described to be the spirit of young urban India, takes on socio-economic divides, peer pressure, teen dilemmas and growing up pangs

Shewta Gulati > To be honest, it's effortless. I guess it's because of my petite frame that I end up looking the age my character demands on screen.

Shewta Gulati > Yes, it is a movie. My director (Romila Mukherjee) saw me in Shagun and thought the role was tailor-made for me. I am playing the teenage lead in the film. I am playing Nani's closest pal in the film.

Shewta Gulati > I haven't given a serious thought to films yet. This film, Detective Nani just happened to me by chance. I can see myself doing TV for a long, long time.

Shewta Gulati > Great. She's fun to be with. Quite like "Anvesha." I mean, a brat in real life. She's fun-loving and it's cool to spend time with her, off screen as well.

Hey guys, Ekta is not only observing & absorbing the characters of Remix, but also using their on-screen names in her shows. There is this new show aired on Zee & one of characters on-screen name is Ranveer. I was browsing the channels & happen to halt on seeing a familiar face in this serial, which happens to be ira of Remix & just then I heard someone addressing a guy in the serial as Ranveer, I was shocked. Can u believe this and she calls herself the creative head. I think according to Ekta creative in her dictionary means copying stuff from other serials & shows. She is the biggest copycat I have come across & who doesn't acknowledge people (in general) & people award her for that. Since she is very superstitious she must have thought by keeping this guy's name Ranveer, he will surely become very popular as our own Ranveer in Remix. But there a huge difference b/w Karan & this guy & the character in particular. There can never be another Ranveer, Tia, Ashi & Yuvi.

I have also seen in Ekta kapoor's serails, she uses the popular names of the main leads of other shows. That's not right. Her new serial 'KASAM SE' has the character of Ranveer. As everyone today likes her daily soap 'kyuonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', people think that she is a genius. She always focusses on family drama and emotions. There can't be no show like Remix. There can't be another Tia, Ranveer, Ashi and Yuvi. They all r exceptional and they totally rock. I think so Ekta has no new name in her dictionary so she is borrowing names from popular shows like Remix. Next, we will come to know that she is also using names Tia, Ashi, Yuvi in her serials. Heres some info on Karan aka Ranveer

An actor injuring himself on the sets isn’t a new phenomenon, but Karan Wahi, who plays Ranveer in Remix, never imagined he would hurt himself climbing down from a tree for a scene.

Tarzan move

Karan was shooting in Uttan when the accident occurred. he recalled, “I was supposed to climb down a tree, all the time looking at Tia and making a slow descent. While doing so, my left leg slipped off the branch and I was left dangling mid-air. Only after I slipped, did I feel the excruciating pain that went through my leg.”

Secluded spot

It took 10 minutes for the unit members to get him off the tree, said the actor. “I think my injuries are more internal. I cannot sit properly, as I am unable to bend my left leg. As long as I am standing, there is no pain. It’s only when I try to sit that the pain starts.”

The location hampered Karan’s recovery. “Uttan is a secluded beach quite far from civilisation. So getting medical aid or assistance was difficult,” said a unitwala.



Despite the injury, Karan continued to shoot — with a limp. “I cannot afford bunking my shoot, as we are on an outdoor schedule.”

Sports injuries

This isn’t his first leg injury, “I have always been into sports, and used to such things. But while shooting, the consequences are more damaging.”

For the moment, Karan is banking on balms and instant relief sprays. “I have been getting my thigh massaged amidst shots, so that it doesn’t get too stiff. After I reach the city, I plan to go to a doctor and have it examined.”

Priya started playing the sport from the time she was 15 or 16 year old. “I have played for Rajasthan and also spent two years of intensive training in Chennai’s Tennis Academy.”

The actress recalls her earlier days when she would worship Steffi Graff. “I used be a huge fan of Steffi Graf and Andre Aggasi. In fact, I would even tell my friends that it would be a dream to see them get married someday. Everyone would laugh at me then.”

So why didn’t she pursue tennis as her main profession? “It is a very expensive sport. An average racquet costs anywhere between 6000-7000 bucks. Also there’s a lot of travelling involved and there are no instant rewards. I anyways was never looking at tennis as means of earning money.”

Even though she is a television actress and doesn’t get enough time play as much as before, Priya makes it a point to visit Goregaon Sports Complex whenever she has the time.

So much that she is in fact, planning to shift her residence closer to the club to cut down on the travelling time. “Yes I am looking at renting a room near the complex so I can play more tennis. Right now I am staying in Malad, and it does take time travelling back and forth from the club.”

it began with tia then ashi then yuvi and then ranveer

when they were taking their real names......Shweta was asked if she is a punjabi...and she said yes she is

when Priya took her surname it was kinda unheard by the RJ....so Priya said that it has a British origin.....and am not sure but I think she said her mom is a punju....but she also added.....jo bhi ho....I am a hindu ( well said)

dont remember abt yuvi but guess he is a punju too

and Karan said something abt Multan a place in Pakistan.....dont remember exactly what he said

then the 4some were asked abt their heartbreaks

Shweta said that she had her 1st heart break when she was 20......and a guy had dumped her.....she took that guys name too

Priya said that she hasnt had a heart break as yet ( touch wood....hope she doesnt have any in the future too) ....and that she has only been breaking hearts ...she also added...that all her previous relationships have ended on amicable terms.

Both Karan and Priya refused to take names

then they had a task where u r supposed to propose without using the words...pyar..ishq..love...etc....it was basically a contest for the viewers but the RJ asked the foursome if they could do it

then it was Raj's turn......and his answer was the best.....he said " ay wacko...chalti kya mere saath " ..I couldnt believe he said this....coz it was in total tapori style just like my valentine contest ka entry (nishi r u listening......so ur task of choosing the winner has now become easier )

then it was Shweta's turn.....am not sure abt what she said....but she did say kuch kuch hota hai.....or something like that

after that Shweta and Karan sang dil ki yeh dhadkan.......and then yuvi and ashi were supposed to sing

so Raj started humming the whistle of the love is in the air track.......but then that Karan .,...he said if u guys want u can sing dil ki yeh dhadkan too.....and so Raj and Priya sang some fast version of that song

how I hated Karan for this.......Raj was humming the whistle so beautifully.....wish Karan wouldnt have poked his nose in the middle

the rj told all four of them to introduce themselves in the order they are sitting .. wit the character name n real name

n then rj tells raj n pri to sing.. n raj was gona sing some eng song of his choice.. but the rj told him .. tht only remix ka song.. so he started off with whistle of lvoe station ..

Definitely Swetha's original voice is very feminine & sweet just like her. Ya from her looks one can say she is very bubbly.

I always disliked Karan & liked him only as Ranveer when he is with Tia. So the way he spoke on radio mirchi has not surprised me at all. It was expected after reading his interviews & his recent chat on Indya. Raj & Priya shouldn't have listen to him & continued singing their song. That would have a been a big slap on his face .........lol.
But they were very sweet in fulfilling their friends request & sang the song karan suggested. True friends huh.

This is a fairytale in the modern era. Meet Prince Charming, Karan 'Ranveer' Wahi and his princess, Shweta 'Tia' Gulati --- the endearing couple who make up the team of Star One's Remix.

Tia and Ranveer are two of the foursome who have made Remix lingo a rage amongst the teen population of the country! If Tia has made short dresses look cute, then Ranveer has made the ethnic, look stylish. Ananya Sengupta caught up with the duo on the sets of Remix working and having some fun at the same time!

You people really look nice together!

Tia: Yes, we do, don't we? (nudges Ranveer) Now we are romancing on screen too!
Ranveer: Yes, it's great fun to work with her. In fact, the whole cast is wonderful…they are like family.

Is that why you all are not doing any other show

Tia: Well, Remix is so much a part of me now…But you know, it is important that I do one show at a time. I am Tia Ahuja now. I try to dress and talk like her. I can't move around in jeans any longer…I am supposed to be a 17year old now! (laughs)
Ranveer: She even calls her dad pappa nowadays..
Tia: No! I always used to call him pappa (hits him)

Tia, we know that you had refused an Ekta show...
Tia: That was a long time ago. That was not something that I wanted to do...


Ranveer, you didn't tell me why you are not doing any other shows…
Ranveer: Oh yes, I am not doing any other show because, frankly because I don't want to. We get only Sundays off, and

So what do you do when you are not shooting?
Tia: I meet up my parents, spend time with my family.

Tia: Jeans and T-shirts. You know I like to wear sarees, but know that I have to be a 17 year old, I wear dresses and skirts..

Tia: Tia is real, in fact, I have a friend who behaves exactly like Tia. Her hair, her skin etc are most important to her! The only thing different is that she doesn't have a business tycoon as her father. And even Anvesha, my sister is exactly like her. She will do exactly what my mother asks her not to do.
Ranveer: I don't identify at all…

Ranveer: The words are not vulgar. I don't know what the controversy is all about…

What about your own parents?
Tia: My sister has really picked up the lingo.
Ranveer: My dad says bhaggu and I have to listen to endless duh's. In the serial, I am the only one in the serial who uses aap's and hum's. My dad and my friends feel that I Remix ne mere bachche ko sudhar diya hai! ( Remix has improved my son!)


Have you ever been mobbed?
Tia: All the time. Once when I had gone to watch a movie Karan ( Ranveer) really scared me by hollering my name at the top of his voice. I was so embarassed!
Ranveer: In Delhi, I thought only Bollywood stars get mobbed...but....
Tia: But television stars are bigger nowadays!

Star One’s serial Remix, aimed at the pre-teen/teen segment, has emerged as one of the more successful shows on the channel.

Perhaps a bit too successful, as programming honcho Deepak Sehgal found out at his own cost recently.

In an interview in the inaugural issue of the television magazine, Tele Prime Time, Sehgal talks about how he has stopped his daughter from watching the show after she told his wife to “chillax” and take a “chill pill”.

Remix, which unfolds at Maurya High, takes a look at the growing-up pangs of a bunch of students, including a red-haired rebel, who comes from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

“I won’t deny that Remix is having horrible repecussions on kids and parent-child relationships,” he adds in the interview.

So is Srishti Behl-Arya’s daily teen show causing concern to the channel?
Sehgal vehemently denies the assessment and says that he has been misquoted.

“What I said was that when my daughter told my wife “to chillax” and “take a chill pill”, she was taken aback. I told her (his wife) this is the lingo of today’s generation. It’s like we used to say in our days ‘just chill’.”

“How can I have that attributed to me?” he continues. “It’s our show. How can I make such a comment on something which we want people to see.

Remix is not just a candy-floss show that takes on the love life of students; there are various other aspects to it like socio-economic divides and the growing up dilemmas.”

However Sudipta Chattopadhyay, editor, Tele Prime Time, who has also written the story says, “Mr Deepak Sehgal did make the statement. We have the conversation on record. I interviewed him about 22 days ago at the Star Plus office at Marol. He knew it was being taped.”

So what was said and what was not? Anyway, as the Remix guys and gals would says, “Puhleese, chillax.”

What is Remix?

This daily teen drama on Star One is described as the spirit of urban India, taking on socio-economic divides, peer pressurea and teen dilemmas.

It features four students, Anvesha (Priya Wal), Yuvi (Raj Singh Arora), Ranvir (Karan Wahi) and Tia (Shweta Gulati) — who study at Maurya High.
Ironically, Wal’s father, Harsh Wal, is the principal of Lovedale School, Ooty!

Remixed to rock ’n’ roll

Remix sells. From golden oldies with jhankaar beats to school kids with attitude. And now it’s Calcutta’s time to get jiggy with it. The four main characters of STAR One’s popular serial Remix will camp at the Golden Park hotel this Saturday for a jam session with DJ Akash at the restobar Fusion.

The serial, set in an elite school for the kids of the rich and famous, revolves around the four characters of Tia, Anvesha, Yuvi and Ranveer, whose love for music not only brings them together but also gets them to create their own band, named Remix. Apart from the loveable characters, the music by Pritam and vocals by Popstar band Aasma has made the serial very popular among school and college kids.

“We are showing what’s happening in schools around the country and that’s what has caught on with everyone,” says Karan Wahi, who plays the role of Ranveer. “The crushes, the fights, the groups — they are all there.”

For Raj Singh Arora, who plays Yuvi, coming to Calcutta is a dream come true. “We all have great expectations from the city. Apart from a lot of friends, my first girlfriend was from there.”

This is also one of the rare occasions when a jam session has been planned exclusively for school and college crowds. “We are trying to get those young people for the afternoon jig who cannot party at night,” says Akash

Bindaas is the one word to describe the awesome foursome from Remix, the music serial on STAR One. Very much like their screen avatars of Tia, Anvesha, Yuvi and Ranvir, the four young ones — Shweta Ghulati, Priya Wal, Raj Singh and Karan Wahi — are the hip ’’ happening faces of the small screen. Here’s what they told Goodlife on their whirlwind trip to the city on Saturday.


Shweta (Tia) — Having done a film (Detective Nani), I find television work very taxing. Not only does it mean very long work hours but also a whole lot of fast work since we have to produce software for the daily one-hour show. But I am also very comfortable doing television. Despite the fact that the Remix contract doesn’t allow me to do anything else, I signed it on because I knew what I was getting into, I knew how big Remix would be. Also, dancing is my biggest passion and this serial being all about music and dancing, I said yes straightaway and I have been enjoying every moment on the sets.


Anvesha (Priya) — I have never planned anything in my life. I always wanted to be Steffi Graf and believed I had her slice backhand and strong forehand. I also used to defeat all the boys in school but I soon realised that passion remains passion and doesn’t become a job. So I moved on to modelling and did work for big fashion labels, like that of Ritu Kumar and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Then Remix happened and I had to colour my hair red for the character of Anvesha. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I do regret it, but then I become happy when I see girls in Bangalore colouring their hair like me. As for the language, my character is Bengali, but I don’t really have to speak the language on screen.


Raj (Yuvi) — I did my law course from Symbiosis but showbiz is something I always wanted to do. I was shortlisted for the MTV VJ hunt and also went on to do some VJing for Zee Music. I also did a couple of music videos like Leena Leena and Kabhi aar kabhi paar. But after that life became Remix. I must admit apart from the love for music, I do not relate to my character at all. But then it’s a job I do and I am ready to do the saas-bahu serials also if needed.


Karan (Ranvir) — I am the youngest of the four and will turn 19 on June 9. So I am constantly pampered on the sets. They treat me like a kid and I love it that way. I am doing a course in business administration. But now with this acting thing on, business has become secondary. I have also done other stuff like played cricket for the state, played football and been the only guy to play drums in my school. But now it’s only Remix and I hope it continues that way...

THE GANG The four man characters of the Star One show, "Remix".

The Star One soap "Remix" has something new to talk about. Very soon, the four major characters of the serial will swell to six. No, there won't be a change in the basic storyline but yes, you would obviously see more action with the entry of two more characters into this gang of four spoilsports.

Dished out in the name of today's youth, the serial very much needs something new to beat the monotony of the predictable dialogues and dos. The two new characters would be called Shyla Oberoi and Raghu Deshpande and they are supposed to make life miserable for the foursome - Tia, Avnesha, Yuvi and Ranvir. The four protagonists of "Remix", in New Delhi to take part in a functionon World AIDS Day,seem quite convinced with the content of the soap. Shweta Gulati, playing the role of Tia, even says, "We no longer have personal lives of our own. The traits of our characters have started reflecting in our off-screen personalities. For instance, I never use to do this," moving her fingers through her hair, "but now I am used to this, as I have actually started thinking like Tia." Her role in

"Remix" is keeping Shweta so busy that the actress, who earlier appeared in tele-serials like "Shagun", "Kyun Hota Hai Pyarr" and "Lipstick", says she is "rejecting all the saas-bahu serials and even film offers."

However, Shweta is making her big screen debut next year in a film "Detective Nanny".

But for her co-actor Raj Singh Arora (who plays Yuvi in "Remix"), Bollywood is the ultimate dream and he is ready to do anything to fulfil it. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, but his heart was set on acting from the very beginning. "Now my family is happy with my choice," he adds with a smile.

Also holding a hope in the heart to make it to Bollywood is Karan Wahi, who plays Ranvir. He says he won't do any more serials after this as he is "a dreamer" and so Tinsel Town is the sole destination for him. "If not an actor, I would have been a cricketer. But then, acting opportunities came to me and so I left the hope of making it big in cricket," he explains.

Priya Wal describes herself "as a fighter for a cause." Playing the role of Anvesha, she asserts, "The serial is spreading a message not by way of a lecture but in an entertaining way through a medium with which young people can connect."

Well, with the entry of the two new characters, let's hope this `connectivity' becomes a tad more effective.

Pune, April 24: The remix generation is in and nowhere is it more apparent than on Remix - the new soap that airs on Star One, from Monday to Thursday. Be it the wacky hairdo of Anvesha, the sensuous style of Tia, the high-energy of Ranvir or the attitude of Yuvi. In the city on a promotional tour, of the six months old soap, the cast had enough reasons to prove why they were indeed apt representatives of the remix generation.

Raj Singh Arora, who plays Yuvi in the soap is quite a Pune boy - a law graduate from Symbiosis, he still carries fond memories of the city and his eyes light up when he talks about the good ol days. “I’ve spend some of my best years in Pune. Although I was studying here, it was like a paid vacation for me. I still remember the Marz-o-rin lemon tarts and delicacies from Just Baked,” says he. A former VJ on Zee Music, Arora has this to say about his role, “I play this best-looking boy of the school, who has girls swooning over him, but cannot fathom the enigma called Anvesha.”



Priya Wal (Anvesha)— Arora’s love interest in the soap too seems to relate to her role. Ask her about the striking red streaks in her hair and she jokes, “Oh I was born with it! I play this sharp-tongued mischief-maker albeit with a good heart. While, I am a rock fanatic in real life, I get to play a rocker in the serial as well.”

Shweta Gulati, playing Tia in Remix turned down an offer from Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, to join the serial. But Gulati had a tough time relating to her character in the serial. “I play the role of a snooty and self-conscious girl who wants to change the world around her. In real life I am quite carefree and least of all snooty,” she shares.

Karan Wahi, who plays Ranvir, too feels distant from the character he plays, “I am quite a brat otherwise, but in the serial, I am expected to be sober, silent and very much focused. It was tough, but I learnt the tricks of the trade soon,” says he.

Quite like their off-screen lives, the four main characters in Remix, hail from different backgrounds, busy working towards fulfilling their ambitions. Forced by circumstances to come together, the four finally form a music group called Remix.

Remix team roots for canine safety on Holi
One rather sadistic idea of having fun during Holi celebrations is to target colour filled balloons at animals, especially dogs and smear them with colour. And taking up arms against this cruelty are popular teen icons, Tia, Ranveer, Yuvi and Anvesha of Remix fame. Dressed as their canine friends, the four of them are appearing in a PETA campaign, which urges youth to be compassionate towards animals.

“I was a little apprehensive about dressing like a dog but when they told me the context I was game for it. And we looked cute dressed as dogs,” says Karan Wahi aka Ranveer.

Karan has no problem with canines but at the same time is not comfortable when they are too close to him. “They are good from a distance,” he says. However Karan says he is dead against testing of eye make-up on animals. He says, “This cruel practice that's so rampant must be dis- couraged. It makes the poor animals blind and is the most inhuman thing one can ever do.” While Karan is petrified of dogs Raj Singh Arora, aka Yuvi runs away from colours during Holi. So, he understands the plight of animals that are targeted during the festival. “I empathise with animals when they are smeared with colour. When I was approached for the campaign I grabbed the offer whole-heartedly,” says Raj.

The girls, Priya Wal and Shweta Gulati, were more than game for the campaign. “We love animals and pamper stray dogs on the sets. It feels so nice to have pets around you all the time,” says Priya. Though she is an animal lover, Priya choos es not to keep a pet at home as she hates the “idea of leaving them locked up in the house for hours.” Shweta reveals that she loves to be greeted by Fibi, her cocker spaniel after a hard day's work. “My maid attends to its needs when I am not at home. I loved the idea of dressing up as a doggie. I have a huge picture of ours in the costume and I simply love it,” she says

Yuvraj and Anvesha are in love! If you are a regular watcher of the Star One show, Remix, you should be jumping out of your seats.


Yuvi and Anvesha: let me tell you about a thing called love!
Don't be surprised, in a matter of a few weeks, the fighting, clawing twosome will fall head over heels in love with one another. But it is not as easy as it sounds. The storyline will take a turn when Yuvi, (Raj Singh Rathore) will suffer from selective amnesia...amnesia, that will make him remember everyone except his nemesis, Anevesha (Priya Wal). In this state of mind, Yuvi will fall in love with Anvesha...Perhaps, amnesia is the 'in' disease at the moment on television --- Sujal in Kahiin to Hoga, suffers from the same.

This is not all. Ranveer, aka Karan Wahi too will soon be in the news. He will soon be seen in a fight sequence with Arjun, a senior. Karan, according to Shrishti, the producer, works out daily and had no problems flexing his muscles.

An eyewitness described what happened. “Karan wanted to have some fun by applying colour to Shweta. However, she refused, as she is allergic to colour. The two had an argument that lasted for quite some time.”

The awesome foursome of Remix command a huge teenage fan following with their give-adamn attitude. Youngest of the cast 19-year old Karan Wahi, who essays the role of Ranvir Sisodia, says, “My father says Remix ne mere bete ki language sudhar di hai. That’s because Ranvir addresses people as aap.” A state-level cricketer, Karan is crazy about his PlayStation and loves to sleep on his day off.

Shocking red hair is Priya Wal’s signature look. She plays Anvesha Banerjee Ray, the rebellious daughter who suffers from an inferiority complex about her filmstar mother’s popularity. Priya is an adventure sports freak tomboy in real life too. Incidentally, her dad is the princi pal of a school and has a strong dislike for students who behave like the on-screen Priya.

Raj Singh Arora, who plays cool dude Yuvi, was a VJ with Zee Music before turning to acting. “I came to Mumbai with one bag, a credit card and a cellphone. My parents are proud of me. I have a law degree, and even now my dad tells me to keep updating my knowl edge of law since it may come in handy someday,” he says.

Shweta Gulati plays Tia Ahuja who is known for her baby voice and angel friends. “I am my sister’s idol,” she says.

Television's pretty young things Priya Wal and Shweta Gulati seem to be enjoying every bit of their newfound fifteen minutes of fame. Priya, 21 and Shweta, 23 rule the primetime on Star One in the teenie-bopper flick, Remix. For Delhi model-turned-actress Priya, acting wasn't the "career" in the beginning.

The statuesque brunette who flaunts fiery red hues and spiked hair as the tomboyish Anvesha in the popular teen show, is a Mayo College product who graduated in English Literature from I.P.College and was content modelling for TV commercials and ramp shows. "I was told that I was too tall to be on TV and mentally I wasn't prepared to be in films. You have to be 100 per cent geared up for a big step ahead like films, but TV is a cooler medium and I love it,"grins Priya.


Shweta, a commerce graduate from Mumbai's MCC College has been a call centre executive and a commercial model before she did TV shows for a year and half. "I did Shagun and Kya Yehi Hai Pyar (Star Plus) for some episodes but people have started associating me as Tia in Remix and I like it that way."
Priya was initially "shocked when I started doing Anvesha's role. Cutting my long tresses was depressing considering I had done so many hair ads. But I couldn't wear a wig and colouring my hair wasn't easy but I've received positive feedback for my hair. Now I find myself living that role and loving it too." For Shweta, playing the role of the snobbish Tia is "play-acting through and through. She's unreal for me but it's a character that has made me popular. So I love Tia."


After pack-up, Shweta and Priya prefer to "hangout with each other" they chorus in unison. So these on-screen rivals are actually off-screen buddies? Shweta says she likes spending time with the Remix "caste. They are a bunch of young people like me and we share lots of common interests, we even party together on Saturday nights after work." Puja confesses that it's tough for a "six-movies-a-week person" like her to "work 18-20 hours everyday and coming home just to sleep" isn't easy but the "creative satisfaction and the adulation makes it worth all the hard work. Add to that good friends like Shweta who only make it fun." After Remix, Priya would like to do "films sometime in the future" while Shweta is soon going to shoot for Jolly Mukherjee's new film .. . . . .

How did you get this role ?
Shweta (Tia ): I was already doing another show called Lipstick by the same production house Rose, so I guess they always had me in mind. I had to audition anyway and the funny bit is that I actually auditioned for Anwesha’ s role!
Karan (Ranvir): I was In Delhi busy in college with my BBA studies. However, I went in for the auditions that took place in Delhi and luckily I was selected!

How was life for you before Remix ?
Priya (Anwesha): Before, I was into sports and then I got into modelling. I have worked with quite a few fashion designers and that time I used to look completely different from my current red head image! I had curly shoulder length hair which was black!
Raj (Yuvraj ): I am a law graduate and after completing my education I got into showbiz. I had auditioned for the MTV VJ Hunt and have also done a couple of music videos like Kabhi aar kabhi paar.
Karan (Ranvir) : I was playing cricket and had hopes of becoming like Sachin Tendulkar someday. I was also into football and ironically enough I really hadn’t done anything much in the glamour world before Remix happened .
Shweta (Tia ): I have been doing serials for sometime. I have acted in Lipstick and Pardey Ke Peechey. Before this, I was working with a company called Aptech as their marketing head.

What are the similarities and differences between you and the character you play?
Karan: There are a lot of common factors! I’m as naughty and mischievous as Ranvir. I’m quite an intense person and also get angry very fast like Ranvir!
Raj: Nothing much in common other than my love for music. I’m also a DJ besides being an actor. I’m definitely not as rude as Yuvi and not that scared of my father also!
Shweta : I guess playing the role of Tia day and night I have become beauty and fashion conscious like her! But yes, I’m not a tantrum queen like her nor am I so spoilt!
Priya: I can be a bit wacky like her at times. I’m not so over the top and rebellious like Anwesha. However, I’ m as friendly as her.

Why do you think Remix has become so popular ?
Raj and Priya: Remix has worked because it is catchy, unique, with a fresh concept and people can relate to the characters and situation easily. It’s new and so much fun!

Do you think Remix can overtake the Saas-Bahu serials?
Sweta: Like the Maurya High motto goes “We Can And We Will!”
Karan: I don’t think you can compare Remix with the Saas-Bahu serials, after all we belong to completely different genres. They have been there for almost five years while we are just six months old. We both have our own audiences.

What is your message to readers of The Statesman Voices?
Raj: Be comfortable in your own skin and have faith in your abilities. Be a trendsetter and make your own rules.
Shweta: Whenever there’s a problem, talk about it. Communication is the best possible way to bridge the gaps between people especially with your parents.

priya:Priya was the last to be roped in for the show.When she saw how the show was turning out she supposedly said, "I won't do it!" But Shrishti believes that Priya plays herself in the show. Priya lives with two of her friends who are also part of the show. Priya, once cooked on the roadside when her gas ran out.

raj: His character is the truest to life. He is a rebel without a cause. He is angry with everyone around him. He reveals that he is now enjoying the romantic track that is now on air. "It's sweet," he says. For those who don't know whats happening on the show, just tune in and you will find that the guy has lost his memory!
swetha:She is the 'lady' of the group.She exclaims in horror when Shrishti suggests that she wears jeans reather than her trademark dresses. "I am happy with what I am wearing!" she says. She was the first to be taken on board and the producer admits that she has a neice who talks like Tia.
karan: He is the kid of the show, but that does not prevent him from being very concerned about his looks. He seemed obsessed to get his hair right throughout the shoot! So much so that the choreographer had to remind him that they were only rehearsing. Karan scores heavily on his looks and it seems that the guy will go far, if he keeps up the good work!

Anvesha Ray, played by Priya Wal was a model before she took up acting. She is an adventure sports freak and loves her denims --be it skirts or pants. This bindaas babe will be Anarkali in her 80s party. During the rains, this gutsy lass walked all the way home with crowds cheering her on.
Ranvir, the most well behaved kid on campus, played by Karan Wahi, is perhaps the youngest member of the Remix family. He is the darling of the other cast members. He is a huge cricket fan and can be seen in InOrbit mall trying his hand at video games. Ranveer has no qualms in saying that on his day off, all he does is sleep -- and that is the same thing that the others do! He too walked home in chest deep water!

Tia, (Shweta Gulati) who plays a dainty lady in the serial, walked for hours before she reached her destination -- wonder what Tia would have done in the same situation...It's her birthday party and she wants to look her best.



Yuvaraj, the tough guy with an attitude to match was stuck with two of his buddies in the rains. He too, like most of the cast will take on the garb of AB in the theme party.
Unlike the stuttering Varun in the show, Kunal comes across as a guy who has loads of attitude and confidence in his abilities. But he concedes that after playing the character, his own speech has somehow got affected. He was one of the lucky ones who had an off on that fateful day -- he, being bored had called up Karan who, at that point of time was wading through chest deep water! We are sure he was greated with the choicest expletives!
She is Anvesha's best friend. MP, played by Surili, is not only Priya's roomie in real life, but also in the serial. She not only waded through murky water, but along with her friends ventured out to work the next day -- only to be sent packing home by a good sasmaritan, who was perhaps was better informed about the condition of the city than they were!

Sakshi, aka Vrinda completes the trio -- Anvesha, MP and she are the three musketeers who share a special rapport. She is the best cook amongst them and loves rustle up a meal. She is from Delhi, and her friends say that she is like the character she plays -- soft, gentle and gullible.Sakshi, on her part says that her friends are very protective towards her -- just like in the show!

'Remix'cast enters 'Lakme Fashion House'


In a few days from now, the deadly foursome (Anwesha, Tia, Yuvi and Ranvir ) of Star One's Remix will take on a journey to the Lakme Fashion House, a reality show that is aired on the same channel. The episode will be judged by none other than the Junior B, Abhishek.


Dressed to kill??
This will be the mother of all makeovers on television --- reality show contestants styling the stars of another show.

First, it was Kareena Kapoor, then Amrita Arora and then Dia Mirza, Lakme Fashion House has welcomed celebrities every week --- creating garments for their perusal. But surely, it would be a tough task for them to create looks for the hard-headed Anwesha or the temperamental Yuvi.

The contestants at the reality show were quite thrilled to have designed outfits for the youngsters and they had to keep in mind their attitudes.

Bhawna, one of the contestants designed outfits for Yuvi (Raj Singh Arora) and Anwewsha (Priya Wal), "I gave them bold colours, a sort of mix and match --- a rockstar image thats what I have made of them!"

Joby, another contestant, who designed clothes for Tia (Shweta Gulati) and Ranvir (Karan Wahi) says, " I gave Tia a short dress and Ranveer a kurta shirt and pants. They were fun to work with."

Perhaps the most interesting part of this reality show happens behind the scenes --- over 98 crew members live, eat and sleep in the house in which the contestants live, the house itself has over 51/2 km's of cable and records over 2000 hours of footage.

All that the contestants do are recorded by the camera --- except when they are relieving themselves or smoking! "We go to the loo whenever we want to be by ourselves, but then you cant be in there for long --- they start banging the minute they realise what we are upto!,"says Swapnil.

The contestants were in for a pleasant surprise when Mailaika paid them a visit on Friday --- they were given valuable fashion tips by the style diva.

With the sudden spurt of reality shows on the telly, it has become essential for the channels to do something innovative to keep the interest of the audiences going. Surely celebrity quotient helps!

Take Sony's Indian Idol for example, it invited Karan Johar, Juhi Chawla, Kajol and so many others to boost the TRP's of the show that was already at a high.

But surely, if the designers at Lakme Fashion House design something for the cast of Remix then that will be something to look out for!

Well guys this is what i read on telly chakkar abt remix.
Is Remix losing its touch?


Once upon a time, it was the daily fix of teenagers looking for the right story, the right attitude and the right lingo.


Remix gang in their initial days!
Star One's Remix spoke straight to the collegian, the high schooler and the fresh grad longing for the womb of academia. One and half years down the line, changes have crept in. The one hour daily was snipped down into a half hour package, the focus sometimes slipped away from the kids to their parents and to add to the frustration, the channel stayed blank in several areas.

If viewer feedback is any indication, the Remix gang is as loved as ever. Which explains the constant refrain of 'bring back the hourly episodes' on Internet forums. But which probably also explains the plateauing of interest in the show that once dictated teenage fads, dialect and attitude. It's still cool to sigh 'hey bhaggu…' after 190 odd episodes of Remix, but the number of tongues saying it are fewer.

Why, we wondered. The show's producer Shrishti Arya, responsible for putting together the funky gang and its antics, believes that the Remix fervour is still as strong. "We have managed to create a cult show. People who watch it, get influenced, it has that kind of power. Our show has been very different from the beginning…how many one hour dailies do you get to see? And now, we have the world ahead of us; there are many issues which have to be explored - like Tia's relationship with her mother, and other teenage issues like sexuality.
"Besides," points out Shrishti, "We didn't use any marketing strategies for the Remix album too, and it still did so well!"


Arshad Warsi: Special Appearances have always been a plus point of this show!
No leap without looking

Shrishti admits that people come up to suggest that they would like to see these four students married. "But we don't want to do that, because, we want to be in touch with reality," she explains.
And she adds, "I don't see people losing interest in our show, as we have created a niche for ourselves. The kind of things we have incorporated in our show like the language, hairstyles are very gratifying as they are influencing our audience in a positive way."

Star India's Senior Vice President, Deepak Sehgal agrees that the show has been phenomenal but that the response may have mellowed a bit as reflected by the ratings. "The main reason would be the shift in the time slot. Remix best suited the one hour pattern and people enjoyed it too. The story telling in the half an hour is not doing justice to the characters."

Reflecting, he says, "Definitely, the storyline isn't the reason for Remix plateauing, as Goldie and Shrishti have been working on it throughout."


Tia and Anvesha: Their animosity added spice to the show
No more fan mail?

That may be so, but how do the four leads view the changes in the last one and half years? Raj Singh Arora who plays Yuvraj aka Yuvi, agrees that there has been a change in the response they receive. "I feel my character as Yuvraj has grown 10 fold. Perhaps, the response has cooled because the repeat telecast was stopped and also perhaps because the time slot changed. Otherwise, I feel Remix is riding on its best high!" What's one thing Raj would like to see happening in the show in the future? "Arshi and Yuvi falling in love!" pat comes the answer.

Shweta Gulati who plays Tia, however doesn't sense any difference. "Kids still come up to me and demand the one hour slots back! Tia too has reached incredible maturity levels, she was not the kind to go a police station to meet her love, but now she's different." What Tia would like to see happening however doesn't match Yuvi's idea, "I don't want to see Arshi and Yuvi falling in love!"


The booming love between the two has gone for a toss once again!
The wacky and crazy red streaked hair Priya Wal, better known as Anvesha has something practical to offer, "When Remix started, it was very new, and so there was an excitement. Perhaps by now, the excitement has stabilised, and I guess it happens to every show. Honestly, 80 per cent of the audience will still find Remix interesting as compared to other shows. Anvesha as a character has not experienced any stagnant moments. What I would like to see is more masti and more fun!"

Karan Wahi who plays the soft and subtle Ranvir has a different opinion altogether, "Well, not a major change, but the interest levels may have dipped a bit. We miss out on many things when we have to wrap up everything in half an hour, we can't show 12 characters, right? I did feel that it's getting a little monotonous, in between, but now I guess we are back on track."

No back tracking


Star India's Senior Vice President- Deepak Segal
This is the show's second year of running, does the channel plan a third, or will the funky gang take a season break before returning to entertain?

Sehgal says that the channel hasn't taken a call on continuing for a third year, but that they would 'like to start with a different season altogether. We now need to recharge the audience'. He adds on a serious note, "Remix has been a brand for us; the album was the second bestseller in India, for four weeks continuously."

All that seems to be in order then, is a dash of excitement with a possible return to the elements that made Remix the cult phenomenon it was. Remix, original, is that the writing on the wall?

The young cast of the Star One serial Remix say that the characters they play perfectly reflects the aspirations of today’s youngsters

The remix generation is in and nowhere is it more apparent than on Remix - the new soap that airs on Star One, from Monday to Thursday. Be it the wacky hairdo of Anvesha, the sensuous style of Tia, the high-energy of Ranvir or the attitude of Yuvi. In the city on a promotional tour, of the six months old soap, the cast had enough reasons to prove why they were indeed apt representatives of the remix generation.

Raj Singh Arora, who plays Yuvi in the soap is quite a Pune boy - a law graduate from Symbiosis, he still carries fond memories of the city and his eyes light up when he talks about the good ol days. “I’ve spend some of my best years in Pune. Although I was studying here, it was like a paid vacation for me. I still remember the Marz-o-rin lemon tarts and delicacies from Just Baked,” says he. A former VJ on Zee Music, Arora has this to say about his role, “I play this best-looking boy of the school, who has girls swooning over him, but cannot fathom the enigma called Anvesha.”



Priya Wal (Anvesha)— Arora’s love interest in the soap too seems to relate to her role. Ask her about the striking red streaks in her hair and she jokes, “Oh I was born with it! I play this sharp-tongued mischief-maker albeit with a good heart. While, I am a rock fanatic in real life, I get to play a rocker in the serial as well.”

But Gulati had a tough time relating to her character in the serial. “I play the role of a snooty and self-conscious girl who wants to change the world around her. The young cast of the Star One serial Remix say that the characters they play perfectly reflects the aspirations of today’s youngsters

The remix generation is in and nowhere is it more apparent than on Remix - the new soap that airs on Star One, from Monday to Thursday. Be it the wacky hairdo of Anvesha, the sensuous style of Tia, the high-energy of Ranvir or the attitude of Yuvi. In the city on a promotional tour, of the six months old soap, the cast had enough reasons to prove why they were indeed apt representatives of the remix generation.

Raj Singh Arora, who plays Yuvi in the soap is quite a Pune boy - a law graduate from Symbiosis, he still carries fond memories of the city and his eyes light up when he talks about the good ol days. “I’ve spend some of my best years in Pune. Although I was studying here, it was like a paid vacation for me. I still remember the Marz-o-rin lemon tarts and delicacies from Just Baked,” says he. A former VJ on Zee Music, Arora has this to say about his role, “I play this best-looking boy of the school, who has girls swooning over him, but cannot fathom the enigma called Anvesha.”



Priya Wal (Anvesha)— Arora’s love interest in the soap too seems to relate to her role. Ask her about the striking red streaks in her hair and she jokes, “Oh I was born with it! I play this sharp-tongued mischief-maker albeit with a good heart. While, I am a rock fanatic in real life, I get to play a rocker in the serial as well.”

Shweta Gulati, playing Tia in Remix turned down an offer from Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, to join the serial. But Gulati had a tough time relating to her character in the serial. “I play the role of a snooty and self-conscious girl who wants to change the world around her. In real life I am quite carefree and least of all snooty,” she shares.

Karan Wahi, who plays Ranvir, too feels distant from the character he plays, “I am quite a brat otherwise, but in the serial, I am expected to be sober, silent and very much focused. It was tough, but I learnt the tricks of the trade soon,” says he.

Many actors refuse to shoot beyond a fixed time in the evening. Do you think they are justified, considering other actors shoot till very late?

It's an individual choice to work or not work till late. From my point of view, right now I have no responsibilities and I'm not settled yet, so I don't mind working till whatever hours. But after one gets married, you have a responsibility towards your family for which you have to leave early. Having said that, I think if married people have an issue with working late, they might as well not take up a daily because it requires putting in long hours every single day. They know that the hours of work are pre-decided in a daily and that they are required to shoot for 25 days a month. So, they should either honour the commitment, work in a weekly and not take a daily and crib later.

Shweta Gulati (Tia of Remix) has been suffering from acute stomach infection and food poisoning. While shooting for a song sequence this week, the actress collapsed on the sets of her show.

She was rushed to a nearby clinic by her co-stars and crewmembers, and is under medication.

Says Gulati, “Initially, I was throwing up. Unable to get in touch with my physician, I survived on glucose water and a simple diet. Things worsened and there was a dip in my blood pressure, and I became unconscious on the sets.”

Khane mein gadbad

Shweta blames the food she had over the weekend. “It was the corn methi malai sabzi that affected my system. I have been ordering food from a street-side dhaba for quite sometime now.

But I never expected it would cause such an infection. The next day, I was puking and had an unbearable stomachache. I thought it was indigestion, but it continued for three days.”

Gulati had no intentions of hampering her schedule. “I went for regular rehearsals. However, I was late on the sets, and was throwing up constantly. But I didn’t cancel my schedule, as we were shooting a vital song sequence and other important scenes. For my sickness, the entire schedule of the show cannot go for a toss.”

Weak tummy

“Stomach problems have become a part of my life. I contract these infections often,” says the actress. “My immune system is not that strong. My mother lives in Thane and has been getting very paranoid about my health.”

As for her diet, Shweta says, “I have just been eating khichdi, rice and curds. My stomachache has subsided now, after I started on the antibiotics. But I’m feeling quite weak. I should be back on my toes in another day or two.”

IN THE SUMMER TIME...
Summer is here and while the city sweats it out, Dhaval Roy speaks to the TV stars who take a trip down memory lane to their best summer holiday


“In the summer time when the weather is fine, you could stretch right up and touch the sky...” as goes the Shaggy song. It’s the time for light summer clothing, beaches, sun tan lotion, lots of ales and ice cream and for a summer holiday too! But given the hectic schedules, our TV stars may not find themselves indulging in this luxury often now. However, they remember the carefree times they have spent during summer as kids.
For Naman Shaw, Pushkar of Kasamh Se, it was Nepal calling, as he went on a holiday in Kathmandu. “My most memorable trip was right after my ICSE board exams. My dad had sponsored a trip for me and a couple of my friends to Kathmandu. The hotel where we stayed had a casino, and my dad was a gold member of that hotel, so we got a Rs 10,000 worth voucher to play at the casino. This was the first time that I went to a casino ever. The food and beverages there were free, so all we did was sit in there all day, eat and play. Even better, I won a lot of money, so I went and shopped a lot,” he laughs, adding, “I used to go out for a summer vacation every year with my parents, but this was a lot of fun because I went out for the first time with my friends alone. So, we were more carefree.”
Like Naman, for another youngster Raj Singh Arora, Yuvi of Remix, the best holiday was abroad too, in the beautiful locales of Russia. Raj’s father being in nuclear submarine in Russia, Raj spent a few years in that country. “If I go down memory lane, the schooling in Russia was very different from India. Before I joined a boarding school in India, I went for this 10-day school summer camp and I had probably the best time of my life. It was full of sports activities, hovercraft rides, games, and yes, beautiful Russian girls! Let’s not get into all the naughty stuff I have done there,” he giggles, “Even thought I was only six, the entire trip is very fresh in my mind.”
While Naman and Raj went to exotic places for their summer trips, Rakshanda Khan
didn’t find herself going to many exciting places for her summer trips but they have been exciting enough for her because she went with a huge gang of cousins and family. “I used to be really scared of horses, and on one trip I ventured be be brave enough and ride a horse. This was in Matheran, and as you know there are a lot of monkeys there. So, I was sitting on a horse and my camera fell from my hand, and a monkey ran away with it,” she laughs. But the trip had a happy ending for her as , “I didn’t fall and got carried away by a monkey and I got my camera back in one piece too. But more importantly, I was in one piece.”
Holidaying in India has been a lot of fun for Simone Singh too, as it was mostly a beach holiday with her sister and labrador Joey. But the most memorable for her has been when she she was 12 and went to Darjeeling on a mountaineering camp with an all-girls group. “We had backpacks of 20 kgs and had to climb the mountain with that. After the camp was over, we rehearsed for a play and acted it out. It was a lot of fun,” she says.
Spending summers in mountain ranges is what Tisca Chopra remembers doing as well. Especially the one in Kabul when she was about 10 years old. “I have grown up in Kabul, and one summer I went to Paghman with my parents, younger brother and other families from the diplomat circle. There was a mountain stream which gathered into a lake. There were orchards of almond and apricot around. We sat in a shallow part of the stream and it was heaven to sit in the serene water,” she says longingly, and adds that another striking part of the holiday was the amazing Indian khana they had, consisting aloo puri and chhole. ‘Those were the best days of my life... back in the summer of ’69’ may be Bryan Adams’ confession, but our TV stars reminisce their own summers when they could relate to the lyrics most.

Elle 18 gets up close and personal with Anvesha and Tia from the popular show Remix and gets them to talk about everything from their clothes to their love life.



Anvesha is the red haired brat who everyone either hates or loves. She's made the grungy and wacky look quite popular with the girls. They love her attitude and confidence. She likes to stand out in a crowd with her funky look. Priya Wal gives the whole credit for her on screen look to Tania Behl, the Remix designer. In real life, Priya's dad is the principal of Lawrence school, Ooty, while her mom's a teacher.

She herself graduated in English Honours from Mayo College, Ajmer. "Earlier I had shoulder length straight black hair. I am not over the top like Anvesha. But I do identify a bit with her coz I am a rebel and a big time brat like her." Any similarities in their love life? She says laughing, "Anvesha poor thing keeps falling for guys who hurt her. Luckily, I am not that naive. I was seeing some one in Delhi but no one at present."

How does the daughter of educationists become an actor? "I'll put it very frankly. I was a national level tennis player. I wanted to be the next Steffi Graff but I woke up from the dream and realised that it'll never happen... unless you're playing cricket. I was spending more than I was earning. I realised that I wanna make my money. Then modeling happened and I grabbed the opportunity. It's something you get addicted to. You start enjoying your work, the easy money and all the attention," she says.

Remix Rage!
She's Shweta Gulati, the soft-spoken Barbie Dollish, Tia of Remix. Tia is pretty, stylish and loves to dress well. Her clothes are frilly, girly and the colour pink features the most in her wardrobe. She likes to dress up like a princess. About her look she says," Tania Behl is totally responsible for it and I think it's brilliant coz I am getting a lot of compliments for it."

Is she like Tia in real life too? After thinking a bit she answers, "Shweta wasn't soft spoken but she's become soft spoken. Tia and Shweta are very, very, very different from each other. But Tia has brought a lot of changes in Shweta. Shweta is now become more self-conscious. She'll think twice before wearing anything. Even when I am at home I'll check my face for p***les."

Shweta is a Commerce graduate from Mulund College, Mumbai. She was into the corporate world for about 3 years. One day she accompanied her cousin to an audition but got chosen herself. She says, "Acting has become my life and I can't think beyond that anymore and I don't think I'll get back to the corporate world ever." She believes that all you need is confidence and will power and you can get what you want. So any special person in your life? "No, I am happy being single," she says laughing.

We decided to ask the four lead actors what’s on their mind once they stop singing the Remix tune….

I am going to take a short break for 15 days. I will pamper myself by reading some good books, listen to music and watch some DVDs. I have been working round the clock, so I think I deserve a break, where I do nothing. After that I plan to get back to work. I am primarily looking at interesting television roles. Karan and me are best friends, so we definitely will hang around a lot even if we don’t work together.

I think Remix is ending around the same time as my birthday i.e. June 9. It will be an emotional moment for me. I plan to take some time off and just chill for a month. I am turning 20 this year, so I do have time on my side to figure things out. I don’t mind doing some interesting commercials. And films are something that will always be a dream for me. I hope that the Remix gang keeps in touch with each other. One person that I will definitely be in touch with is Yuvi (Raj Singh Arora).

what u all are saying........ remix is ending....... first i thought it to be a rumour......but then it was told that it is true that it is ending...... then i thought that atleast it will be on air till july end....... but now nearly by 9 june......... hey plz ash tell na its not true..... it is a great setback for me..... i mean remix is my life.....i mean it has tought me a lot about my life..... hey it feels sad that the one thing which has been favourite to u is leaving u on the way..

Audiences today are quick to respond to developments on their favortie show.Be it the introduction, death or replacement of a character, viewer sentiments can no longer be ignored.This excatly the case with starone's youth show Remix.Its going off air has angered its loyalis- tenns,primarily.In fact, they are circulating hate mail to the channel and the show's production Shrishti Arya, So far, nearly 2000 viewers have signed an online petition called "sve remix" that seeks the chanel's intervention to continue remix."I would like it if Remix continued, but ending it is channel's decision. I have been receiving hate mails on the same issue.Viewers must realise that remix is the steping stone to more such cultshows.I would love a comeback,but I don't know when that'll happen.We are winding up the show in a manner that'll allow us to return.THe last episode is inspired by all the mails I get says Shristi Arya."I am very proud of Remix and the way it has helped students develop their relations with their parents.Many are protesting online.Remix has a lot of fan sites that hold strong presence among internet users.I understand their anger but its heartbreaking, " she says.

9 june:eek: ?????????? i thought there last shooting was on 15 july they are ending it in june only what is this:confused: ???????? but i think they will repeat all the episodes again bcoz the show which comes next to remix i think that was also over and now all the episodes are repeating i wish they don't replace remix with a kekta serial nooooooooooooo nooooooooooooooo way
