Watched yr show - the episode with Mr.Parthiban and Ms.Padmapriya.

The opening was not at all humorous, sensational or not even different, for that matter - it just mocked at 'us' - the audience and proved how most of us -Tamilians - time and again take everything for granted. And still get away with it. That is our attitude towards most things in life. Under the guise of being different, we can't be bothered about discipline.......

Do you think Shah Rukh Khan (being whatever he is) would have had such leeway in say 'Koffee with Karan' - Do you think he would have been allowed to play the host just for the sake of being different......I dont understand why we Tamils have to have so much attitude problem. A simple matter like appearing in a TV program, why dont and can't we respect the format??

What Parthiban did might be insignficant in the larger scheme of things, but it just projects our underlying indiscipline. Therein lies the reason for whatever we are today, as TAMIL NADU STATE and whatever we are not.

Parthiban maybe multi-talented but the reason why he has not consistently "made it yet" is because of what we say in Tamil "Agaraathi" He is an acknowledged iliiterate who always tries to project himself as a thinking intellectual - guys like him always have this complex. The result is he does not fully appeal to any section - illiterate, intellectual or anybody in-between.

You asked him a question " What do people expect from him?" and my wife watching the show had the right reply " Utter nonsense." So that is what it is all about - in the final analysis.

Take Padmapriya - (poor thing - most of the time she looked like wondering why was she there in the first place with Mr.P??) and look at her reply - asked to comment abt the conviction of three actresses she was bang to the point - '"They appear to be people with conviction but she can't really comment because she dont know them"

With all due respect, I am just taking a wild guess here to illustrate a point......You should have asked Mr.P about Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen.Harry Reid (the Democrats in the US Congrss) and our friend for all you know would have straightaway given you a supposedly first hand response :-):-)

Therein lay the essence of yr program - the difference between Mr. P and Ms.PP.

People who like to be different are those who cannot make a mark being what they are - so they have no choice but to try and be different, atleast for the sake of being so. Period.

The point of writing so much is - Whoever your guests are, remember "the program - the format - the presentation" is paramount. Not the individuals. Once you start playing up to your guests' whims and fancies, you will gradually become irrelevant.

Having said that, we also would like to have more people like Dr.Kamala Selvaraj, Chess Anand and so on on a show like yours - people who we all know yet we dont know - people who have achieved so much in life yet are so much hidden from the public eye.

Respecting their needs for privacy, we all would benefit a lot from their insights - provided you are able to engage them in the right perspective.....

Just leave the movie people alone - they have so many other avenues to be on TV. And then there is 'Jillunnu oru Jodi' .........

Cheers!

Thamizhanban

ps: One thing we realized during this episode - is how when people can effortlessly switch between two languages - in this instance English and Tamil -it sounds so pleasant. Top credits to your and Ms.PP. Lot of Indians are overseas these days mainly because we are atleast bilingual and mostly we are good and effective in both. We know communication is the priority not the language - at the same time, please make a sincere attempt to keep the conversation as much as possible in our Thamizh.

Dear Mr Thamizhanban
At the outset allow me to express my appreciation for the detailed feedback.

I am responding to that part of the feedback that concerns me alone. :) if you get my drift....
The format of the show: I am afraid i am not one of those rigid people who stick to a particular format. If it seems like fun, i am willing to experiment. While you disliked the change there have been some feedback i ve received that stated that they found it amusing. What people didnt understand was that the whole english/tamizh play was rehearsed and i guess thats because all three of us are actors :) and i suppose we were too convincing.
So, we ll be a bit more careful when we are pulling such stunts. Point noted.
About getting people from other fields - yes i ve received this feedback but ours is a programme driven by TRP. And if most of the public want film people, the channel will have no option but to cater to their needs. But we are trying to bring in a few non film people as well. They will have to be judiciously spaced so as to cater to ALL kinds of audiences. Of course, i dont have a say in the choice of guests, but i felt compelled to respond to this point as well
And as i ve mentioned before, i m consciously cutting down english but as you rightly pointed out , one of our unique traits is our ability to fluidly switch from one language to another .
Thank you for your feedback
Best regards
Anu Hasan
