Indian food is considered as a gift of the gods and is treated with respect. Idukki district in Kerala is famous for its spice plantations and wildlife sanctuaries. It is known for its power plants and sanctuaries. The district offers a number of tourism options like wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantations and mountain treks. The most famous hill station, Munnar is located in Idukki district. People from all over India come here to enjoy the weather and tea plantations. This place is also home to the famous Nilakurinji flowers that bloom once in twelve years. Thekkady is an important spice town and is close to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary. The other towns near Thekkady that are spice trade centers. Vandanmedu is located 25 kms from Kumily and is one of the world’s largest auction centers for cardamom. A walk through the cardamom plantations is an enhilarating experience. The entire place is full of sprawling cardamom plantations. During a visit to Thekkady and the nearby Periyar Wildlife sanctuary; one must include a visit to this place.
