We would love to hear from you on the producers versus multiplex owners’ standoff
AND the verdict is out: the producers versus multiplex standoff continues.
At a meeting in Mumbai on May 5, producers and multiplex owners were to bang heads to find the last thread of a solution for the ongoing strike. It was not to be. Producers walked out of the meet when the multiplex owners reportedly insisted on the same percentage they demanded in January this year.
Producers then threatened to release their films only in single screens. The United Producers and Distributors Association head Mukesh Bhatt said more producers would follow suit.
Multiplex owners were unmoved. "They're bluffing. Let one big film come for release," said one owner, who was on the phone receiving news of the talks breakdown. "They will surrender. There is no way that the multiplex audience would see movies in those halls."
Our question to you is, do you think audiences will watch a film on a single screen because they have been starved of a new release since April 3, when the strike began? And the bigger question: would YOU watch a film at a single screen theatre?
Tell us! We would love to hear from you!
