Is Snape an agent for Voldemort or Dumbledore? It comes down to whether you believe Dumbledore was begging for his life when he said, "Severus . . . please"or whether he was urging Snape to go ahead with an agreed-upon plan.
Rowling says those who think Dumbledore and Snape had a pact "cling to some desperate hope."Still, in Sorcerer's Stone, Dumbledore tells Harry that "to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." Would a man who thinks that really beg for his life?

Who is RAB? Could it be Sirius Black's dead brother, Regulus? Rowling has called that "a fine guess."

There are other hints pointing to a Black family member having gotten the locket/horcrux from the cave. During the frantic cleaning of 12 Grimmauld Place in Order of the Phoenix, members of the order come across "a heavy locket that none of them could open."

Will the secret of Harry's scar be revealed? Some speculate that Harry's scar is actually a horcrux, created when Lord Voldemort killed James and Lily Potter, although there is much dispute about this on the Internet.

There can be little doubt, however, that the scar that started it all will play a key role as Harry's story wraps up. After all, it's in the first chapter of Sorcerer's Stone that Professor Dumbledore says "scars can come in useful." And Rowling has said that the last word of the last book will be "scar."

Is this the end of Hogwarts? Well, Harry's not returning for his seventh year, and Ron and Hermione are going with him. Also, Rowling described the Luna-commentated match as "the last Quidditch match."

Still, it's hard to believe, as Harry and Voldemort prepare for their final battle, that these two magical, handsome, cursed orphans won't return to the place where each first felt truly at home.

Does Harry die? That's the only question that really matters, isn't it? Remember in Goblet of Fire that Dumbledore gets a "gleam of something like triumph"in his eyes when Harry tells him that Voldemort used a drop of Harry's blood to revive himself. Rowling calls the gleam "extremely significant." Perhaps, like his scar, giving blood to Voldemort somehow protects Harry. Who knows?

Well, J.K. Rowling does. The rest of us will just have to wait and wonder.

ABOUT 15,000 teenage girls queued at a hall in central London yesterday in the hope of securing a part in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the latest film in the JK Rowling series. Some began waiting on Friday night at the hall in Westminster to audition for the role of the trainee wizard Luna Lovegood. Only a few got through to the next round. Production is due to start next month.

Wow, that was fast. It seems like just yesterday that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was raking in the pre-Thanksgiving cash, and now it's already coming to DVD on March 7th.

The special features will include additional scenes; an interview with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson; cast and crew interviews; "Preparing for the Yule Ball" featurette; "Triwizard Tournament Challenges (Dragon, Lake and Maze)"; Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort features as well as a bunch of DVD-ROM content, including a game demo.

Also look for an eight-disc box set of all four Harry Potter films. The fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will be released in June 2007, which will hopefully be around the same time that J.K. Rowling publishes the seventh and final book in the series. And then we can forget that any of this ever happened.

Such perfect casting - the sexy Brit as the sexy villain, sworn to Voldemort and prepared to break hearts and minds under her high heels.

Well, someone over at Warner Bros. must've gotten wind of this, because it appears a formal offer has been made to Miss Hurley. This isn't 100% confirmed, but it must be pretty damn close, 'cause otherwise we wouldn't post it here. Stay tuned. You will know for sure when we know for sure.

Potter Film Snow Blow
SCOTLAND may lose out on lucrative filming for the next Harry Potter film because of a lack of snow.

Scenes for Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix may be filmed in Scandinavia.

Scotland's tourist industry has benefited from the first four Potter films using the Highlands as the setting for Hogwarts school.

But this time the film crew want scenes showing heavy snow in the mountains and their efforts so far have been scuppered by unseasonably mild weather.

Trisha Shorthouse, of the Highland and Islands Film Commission, said: "There are some scenes which require a lot of snow and quite simply there is not enough."

Directors have this month made helicopter flights over Glen Etive and Glendessary.

Warner Bros. has cast the roles of Kingsley Shacklebolt and young James Potter for the Order of the Phoenix movie. George Harris (The Interpreter, Raiders of the Lost Ark) will play the Ministry Auror and teenager Robbie Jarvis will play the young James Potter whom Harry sees in "Snape's Worst Memory."

The Potter author today updates her JKR.com diary detailing a "flood of inspiration" she is currently having while writing Book 7.

Of course, this heavenly state of affairs will not last, it never does. I'm bound to get all snarled up in a plot tangle, or else find myself temporarily stranded on the edge of a large hole in the story. Until then, however, I shall enjoy floating along on this flood of inspiration.

JKR is in Bucharest, Romania, right now participating in "Romania for Europe's children," which includes a charity dinner tonight at 7:00. Jo offers some detailed information in her news section on the event and what motivated her to take part.

In 2003 I read an article in the British Sunday Times about the use of 'cage beds' in psychiatric institutions in the Czech Republic. The article alleged that children as young as two were being kept in these beds, without physical contact or comfort, for the majority of the day and night. The photograph that accompanied the article – of a very young boy staring through wire mesh at the camera - is still branded on my memory; in fact, it was so disturbing that when my eyes first fell on it my immediate instinct was to turn the page quickly so as not to have to look at it.

The role of Magorian, a centaur in the Forbidden Forest will be played by Michael Wildman in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix his agency reported today. It is unknown at this moment if the character will be computer generated with Michael portraying the voice of Magorian or if the character will be enhanced with special effects.

Michael has appeared in the following UK TV shows: Waking the Dead, Extras and Casualty.

Louth schoolgirl Evanna Lynch has beaten more than 15,000 hopefuls to scoop the role of Luna Lovegood in the next Harry Potter blockbuster.

Avid Harry Potter fan Evanna, who is 14 and from Termonfeckin, had dreamed of playing a part in a big-screen version of one of the books, and has now heard that her dream is to come true, her father Donal has confirmed.

Luna Lovegood is a Ravenclaw student who becomes an important ally of Harry, Ron and Hermione’s in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Principal photography will commence on February 6 on the film, which is the fifth film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Potter series.

The latest Harry Potter movie is the best yet. And the scariest.
There was a growing concern that it could be too frightening
for the boy wizards's younger fans.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has a 12A rating, meaning
that children under 12 cannot see it without an adult. It is the
first time a Harry Potter film has had such a classification - the
three previous movies were each rated PG.

The British Board of Film Classification has warned the latest film
has 'the potential to frighten some children'. The critics are agreed.

In the movie Harry faces a 'nightmarish' underwater test and

Gary Oldman has been booted off the next Harry Potter – but no-one seems to know exactly why…

The actor hasn’t signed up to resume his role of Sirius Black in the forthcoming flick, which has confirmed the whisperings that he has been mysteriously ditched from the blockbusting series.

Oldman’s mangaer, Douglas Urbanski confirmed that Gary will not star in ‘The Order of the Phoenix,’ telling the Sun:

“You will be shocked to hear learn there are no plans for Gary to appear in the film.”

“We are left with no choice but to pursue other employment for him.”

Ah, surely offers will be rolling in for the old boy??

Some members of Dudley's gang have now been cast. Jason Boyd will play Piers Polkiss, and Richard Macklin will play Malcolm.

Other casting includes Charles Hughes as Young Wormtail and Susie Shinner as Young Lily Potter. CBBC Newsround reported last week that Robbie Jarvis, 19, will play Young James Potter.

Auror Dawlish will be played by Richard Leaf, and Nick Shim has been cast as Zacharias Smith. Gary Oldman is currently in negotioations to return as Sirius Black.

The Order of the Phoenix will be released sometime in 2007.

This morning news comes from across the pond of additional casting for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." The role of Amelia Bones will be played by Sian Thomas, the Dursleys will be back, Charles Hughes will play a young Wormtail and Susie Shinner will portray a young Lily Potter. Also Dudley's gang members will consist of Jason Boyd as Piers Polkiss and Richard Macklin as Malcolm.

The famous wizard, Harry Potter, will be killed off in the final book about the boy wizard, or so goes the latest buzz. The startling prediction was made by former 'Carry On' actor Jim Dale, the 'Voice' on the popular Potter audio tapes in America. Jim was recently quoted as saying that the author told him, 'You have to wait to see whether Harry survives to be grown-up.'

He confirmed author J.K.Rowling's declaration that the seventh Harry novel, which she has recently started to write, will be her last. But the 70 year-old expat, who became a Broadway star after moving to the states in seventies, added, 'She has lived with Harry Potter so long she really wants to kill him off.'

Jim, who has met JK several times, did not elaborate on how Harry might meet his maker. His belief echoes that of Potter film star Daniel Radcliffe. He said last year 'I've always had the suspicion Harry might die.'

The author, J.K Rowling was, however, unavailable to comment.

The latest Harry Potter movie, 'The goblet of Fire' grossed an estimated 92.6 million dollars from more than 11,600 prints in 57 markets, taking its overall gross to a massive 560 million dollars.

Well I don't think that its true.I mean which author spends 10-12 years of her life writing
seven books,each of which become best-sellers,only to kill the hero in the end...
Besides this is a children's book and children like happy endings,where the hero kills the bad guy.

I think they'll marry by the end of the 7TH book . I heard onthe the news channels that the 7th book is the last of the series. Paleaze anyone ask Rowling not to stop writing HP series. I think HP is the first of its kind and everyone will miss it very much. Now Harry & Ginny should Marry while Ron and Hermy should have some cute fights and finalkly lande up in marriage. Anyway Ron's likeness Fluer is getting married to his bro Bill. And sure enough Ron apni babhi ko premika nahi banayega. well jkr has said tht she has written an epilogue at the end of the 7th book ... i.e she has written in short about what happns to each character in the future..

At last night's Empire Awards, Daniel Radcliffe spoke with Empire Online about the Order of the Phoenix movie, saying that it's "going really really well. The new director’s fantastic. I’ve never been quite this pushed before, so regularly. He’s really pushing Harry’s emotional and psychological journey. But he also seems to have an incredible eye for sets and shoots and things.”

Producer David Heyman shared what they've shot so far: "We’ve done a little bit of action so far. We’ve done some stuff involving centaurs and Grawp, who is Hagrid’s 16ft brother. The kids have to act against a lot of blue screen for characters like Grawp, but thankfully they’re used to that by now."

Heyman also said that filming would end temporarily in the middle of May, so that Dan and Emma can take their exams, and would start up again sometime in July.

Dan also told BBC Radio 1 that he will be filming his kiss with Cho Chang today: "It'll be odd because one of my parents will be on set. It will be embarrassing but hopefully I'll work past that and be utterly professional but I'll probably keep screwing it up so that I can keep doing it." Thanks, Katie!

Arey Luna u'v got brains. Anyway u'r predictions were funny. And the twins mariage was what I guess too. But the names r nitwit. They making HP into Sita aur Gita. I hope they don't. But ya u'r theories r awesome. And then Harry will be Sirius, Ron James and Hermy Lily. And then Harry is made the godfather of Ron Hermy's son. On April 5, 2006, Warner Bros. informed that the Order of the Phoenix movie would be released on July 13, 2007, as had been previously rumored online. A teaser trailer is expected sometime later this year.

Filming will temporarily cease in the middle of May 2006 so that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) and Emma Watson (Hermione) can take exams. Emma will be taking her GCSEs, while Dan will sit his A2s (as part of the first year of his A Levels). Filming will then pick up again sometime in July.

Rupert Grint attended the North American premiere of his new movie, Driving Lessons, at the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday, and several pictures are now up at Getty Images. He participated in a Q&A session following the first screening, and VTM reader Laura sent in the following report from it:
The director, Jeremy Brock, Rupert, Laura Linney, and several producers were there and took questions after the screening. The very first question was from a girl, asking if Rupert would give her a hug, which he did. Jeremy Brock was asked why he picked Rupert. Brock said he had seen the HP films and thought Rupert was "underused" and "hugely talented. I put my faith in him and he repaid me wonderfully." Most of the other questions went to Rupert.

Q. How was it doing something out of HP?
A. It was quite scary to come into something completely different.

Q. What was it like to film your first on-screen kiss?
A. Quite scary, took us about 15 takes. The girl was really helpful, really good.

In an interview with icSurrey, Chris Rankin, who plays Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, said that he starts filming on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in two weeks' time and also discussed how his character has changed over the course of the books:
"Over the course of the films, he's gone from being a stuck-up, poncey prefect to quite a nasty piece of work. My character didn't appear in the last film but, when he makes his return in the next one, he starts to become really obnoxious.

"By that stage, of course, he's working for the Ministry of Magic and he's become so power-hungry that he'll step on anyone to get where he wants. And let's just say that the Minister for Magic, Mr Crouch, has his shoes well and truly kissed!"

JK Rowling has begged fans to stop a deluging her with paper.

The author underestimated her power when she complained in an interview about a lack of lined paper for sale in her home city of Edinburgh. Fans around the world, keen to speed along the Potter writing process, began sending her pad after pad.

"Be careful what you wish for – it might come true," she has now commented on her website. "Some of you sent single sheets, others entire pads.

"One enterprising paper merchants sent a large stack of notebooks embossed boldly with JK ROWLING, which I might not use in public, but which are very lovely all the same."

Others apparently send recommendations of paper retailers in the city, some even including maps.

She had earlier asked: "What is a writer who likes to write longhand supposed to do when she hits her stride and then realises, to her horror, that she has covered every bit of blank paper in her bag?"

Now it appears wizard fans have achieved their goal. "I've now got enough paper to write several book sevens," said Rowling. "So no excuse there."

Did u know this?JK is going to kill two of her major characters.Its my guess that it might be Ron and Hermione.They r really close to Harry.So Voldemort might want to harm Harry in that manner.Also I want to know if Nagini can be a horcrux?I think it is quite possible.Can Harry be the heir of Gryffindor?The theories given behind this did seem satisfying.

Lucky Evanna Lynch won the part of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films after beating thousands of girls at open auditions.
She chatted to Newsround's Lizo Mzimba.

You're a big Harry Potter fan. How long have you wanted to play Luna?
Well since she came into the books you know, I loved her all of a sudden and I always wanted to be in the films but I didn't know who I wanted to be and then when she came in I wanted to be her.

How difficult was it persuading your parents to let you come down to the audition?
Well my mum didn't want me to go, she thought I didn't have a hope. And then I told my dad and he thought I should go because he knew I really wanted it, so he brought me.

What were the auditions like?
It was mad it was, all the people, and it was really fun though because everyone was really excited. It was good.

Did I get to interview you in the queue or get close to interviewing you?
No you interviewed a girl two places in front of me!

What happened inside the audition?

Lizo just missed bumping into Evanna at the Luna auditions!
About 200 girls went into a room and there were two casting agents and they asked you to say your name and where you came from and then they picked two or three out of that. And they sent you into a room and I was really nervous and kept dropping things and I was going the wrong way and everything. Then she gave us a script and you had to learn it.

It was nice there because we all talked and it calmed you down. Then you went into a room by yourself and you said the script with another lady and the girl kept asking me to say it again and then she called in Fiona Weir (the casting director) and then they told me that they wanted to see me again.

What happened the following week?
I got a call on the Monday and they said we want you to come for a screen test on the Friday. And they were saying things like the director is going to call you today and you'll be doing your scenes with Daniel Radcliffe. I was a bit freaked out by that because it all happened so quickly. I thought there'd be loads of auditions but it was really quick.

What was the screen test like and when did you find out you'd got the part?
The screen test I thought went OK and it was really fine because Daniel was really easy to be with because he's very good at acting so you just believe he's Harry and he talked to me a lot. And he was nice. Then I found out three days later so that was good because I couldn't have stood all the waiting. I got a call when I was in a shop and they just told me then and I was just shocked.

What was it like when you finally found out you had this dream part of playing Luna who you always wanted to play?
I was just stunned because it was such a big dream and you always wish it will happen but I couldn't believe that it did happen.

You had to keep it a big secret didn't you, how difficult was that?
It was fine. I was resigned to the fact that I couldn't tell anyone so I just blocked it out and pretended it wasn't happening. I didn't have to worry because before I was waiting for the call and I was nervous. But this time I knew I had the part and I could just forget about it for a few days.

What was it like on the day it was announced you had the part, how did your life change?
It was mad. I went into school and all of my year were at the windows and they were all waving when I came in. And then all these camera people starting coming into the school and all the other girls were outside waving and I stayed inside and they didn't notice me. I think they had dyed my hair at that point so it was different and I had to have security people.

What's filming been like so far?
It's really fun. I just really enjoy the filming part and everyone's really, really nice. And you don't get nervous when you are talking to everyone. Well the first few days I was nervous but then when you start talking to people it's fine.

How similar are you to Luna and why do you think people like her so much?
People like her because she's like a breath of fresh air. Because in the fifth book it gets so dark and Harry's always cross and then every time Luna comes in all the tension goes and she makes you laugh because she's so funny and really honest. I don't know how much I'm like her, there are some similarities but I'm more determined than her.

Do you ever look at the Harry Potter internet fan sites to see what people think of you?
Well not about me. At first when it was announced I did check but then I got kind of upset because, you know, there are some people who will love you and some people who won't, and it will never happen that everyone will agree, so you just have to try and do your best. I have to do what I think Luna will be, and if that pleases some people then that's good.

Are you looking forward to filming the fight scenes in the Ministry of Magic at the end of the film?
Yes very much. That's going to be exciting. I was watching them building the set and it looks really good.

What was it like meeting JK Rowling, your favourite author?

Well just meeting JK Rowling was amazing because she created all this world. And all the fans, we all get so obsessed with it and then you met the one person who made it all up. It was just so amazing. And I was just so amazed that that she wrote this book and all of the films have happened. She was really, really nice and she's really easy to talk to. I was telling her my theories about what will happen and she just nodded. But she kept it secret, I don't want her to tell me.

Are you a really big Potter fan then?
I'm a huge fan. So it's not just like I wanted to be in a film. I wanted THIS part. I love the books - they make me feel happy. And it's something to do as well because of all the fans sites you can talk to people about it. The books are about magic so you can escape all the world here, and also they're about teenagers. They're normal teenagers, but they're magic, so you can still relate to them.

Tell me about your room and your pets
I redecorated my room recently. It's orange and I put my favourite quotes from the books in turquoise. I have loads of posters but they're too black so they make the room look really dark.

My cats - I have Luna who's just had kittens recently and we called one of them Dumbledore. They're nice but they're not like their characters. I had a cat called Crookshanks but he died.

POLICE were last night probing allegations that a girl was sexually assaulted at Harry Potter star Rupert Grint’s 18th birthday party.

Detectives were called in after the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, made a complaint.

An 18-year-old male party guest has been charged over the claim.
The alleged attack is believed to have taken place at the party for flame-haired Rupert in Hertfordshire on Saturday, September 9.

Dozens of guests attended the bash for the actor, who has earned a fortune playing boy wizard Harry’s faithful sidekick Ron Weasley in a string of Potter movies.

The star is said to have been horrified to learn of the alleged incident.

Last night a spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police said that following the claim an 18-year-old man from the county had been charged with serious sexual offences.

She said: “I can confirm we are investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault on September 9.

“Joshua Lodge, an 18-year-old man from Hertford, has been charged with sexual assault.

“He is due to appear before Hertford Magistrates Court at a date yet to be confirmed.”

Rupert landed the role of Ron aged just 11 after watching an appeal for people to play the part on BBC TV’s Newsround.

He impressed the selection panel by wearing a skirt to impersonate one of his female teachers.

He turned 18 on August 24 but his busy schedule meant his party was held later.

Rupert is currently completing filming on the fifth Harry Potter movie, The Order of the Phoenix.

He will then begin work on the penultimate instalment of author JK Rowling’s series, The Half-Blood Princ

Dan to host theatre book prize ceremony in April

The Stage reports that Daniel Radcliffe will host the Society for Theatre Research's Theatre Book Prize in Covent Garden, London on April 12. He'll be stepping in for society president Timothy West, who has a performing engagement on that night.

Shortlisted authors include Aleks Sierz, Ann Featherstone, John Heilpern, Robert Leach, and Elizabeth Schafer.

Scholastic announced today that the initial print run of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will consist of 12 million copies, breaking the record of 10.9 million set by Half-Blood Prince in 2005.

Director Yates: OOTP 'edgier, more emotional'

In an interview with Geek Monthly, Order of the Phoenix director David Yates spoke about the challenges of taking over a film midway through the series, the themes of the movie, and the maturing cast. Here's a snippet:
"I read the book and, obviously, it’s very difficult not to be intrigued and interested when offered a chance to get involved, because the world is very rich and fantastic and some of the themes in this particular story are incredibly dark and grown up. It was very difficult not to want to join in, as it were. Even though the film franchise has been going on for four pictures now, the attitude of the producers was really to be kind of open to new ideas and new ways of pulling things in a slightly edgier, more emotional direction. Which is, of course, a good reflection of where book five is anyway and what Jo [J.K. Rowling] created in the first place. So you’ve got lots of the benefits and lots of the advantages of joining a franchise such as this as there is a production infrastructure in place."

Harry Potter stamps to begin circulating in France

Variety reports that a set of 10 Harry Potter stamps is set to begin circulating in France soon. According to the magazine, "the collection featuring Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger costs e6.18 ($8.10) and was unveiled at La Fete du Timbre et de l'Ecrit 2007 (Stamp Festival) on Saturday in 115 cities in Gaul. The fest continues throughout March."

Brad Globe, prexy of WB Consumer Products, said, "To be immortalized on a postal stamp ranks among the highest of honors."

Broadway producer eyes 'Equus'

Playbill.com is reporting today that producer David Pugh has expressed keen interest in bringing the current West End revival of Equus (starring Daniel Radcliffe) to Broadway sometime next year.

The site writes: "Radcliffe's filming commitments are likely to make any move unlikely before the fall of 2008. 'We are all very excited about bringing Equus to Broadway next year,' said Pugh."

Of course, nothing is set in stone at this point, and it's entirely possible that Dan won't end up playing the role in America even if the show does come to Broadway, but we'll keep you posted.

When J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows goes on sale on July 21, Barnes & Noble expects to sell the books at a deep discount.

The basic idea is that if you hype up a book like Potter and get people to line up at your stores on the day of its release, the crowds will end up buying more in general as a result. But Barnes & Noble thinks total sales will only be between $4.6 billion and $4.7 billion in 2007, increasing around 2% to 4% over 2006. Sales at stores open more than a year will be unchanged year over year or at best slightly positive.

First review of 'Order of the Phoenix' surfaces

Ain't It Cool News has published a report from the first screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was recently held at an AMC Theatre in Chicago, where the first screenings of the third and fourth Potter movies were also held. Although the reviewer isn't even a fan of the series, he enjoyed the film. A non-spoilery excerpt:
If you liked the last two films style, you will like this. This film is not much different from the last entries in the series. I really appreciated the depth of Harry's character in this; they actually give Harry something to do and he deals with some interesting things in a more real and rounded way....Overall, it was really good and enjoyable

Weasley actors attend NME Awards

Dan signs on for last two HP movies!

Daniel Radcliffe's spokeswoman confirmed today that Dan will return for the final two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, ending once and for all years' worth of speculation that he wouldn't appear in all of the movies. Dan will begin filming the sixth movie in September, soon after the July 13 worldwide release of Order of the Phoenix.

784 pages for 'Deathly Hallows'

Scholastic announced today that the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be 784 pages long, making it the second-longest of the series. Also, all 12 million copies of the book will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste fiber, and the majority of them will be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Lisa Holton, President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs, added, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision."

Emma has no plans to quit HP movies

Despite some discouraging rumors in the British tabloids lately that Emma Watson is planning on quitting the Harry Potter movies, CBBC Newsround reports that she is still planning to sign on for the sixth and seventh movies. A spokesman for Warner Bros. said, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven."

Trio signed on for final HP films

Warner Bros. has announced that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson will all return for the final two Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Jeff Robinov, President of Production at WB, said, "When Daniel, Rupert and Emma were first cast as Harry, Ron and Hermione, we knew they were not only talented, but had a very special chemistry. Through the years, and in each of the 'Harry Potter' films, we have watched them grow into extraordinary young adults, as well as remarkable actors. It would be inconceivable to imagine anyone else in the roles with which they have become so identified, so we are thrilled and proud that Daniel, Rupert and Emma have chosen to complete the arc of their characters in the final two films."

Also, WB announced that David Heyman will return as a producer for both HBP and HPDH as well.

Hogwarts Express train vandalized

The Lancaster Guardian reports that young vandals have caused more than £50,000 in damage to the train used as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films. This is the second time in the past few years that the train has been vandalized. The paper writes:
The youngsters broke into the West Coast Railway depot at the former Steamtown site in Carnforth and used emergency hammers from train carriages to smash toughened glass on the train.

The gang of six youngsters was spotted by nearby residents as they made off.

Patricia Marshall, managing director of West Coast Railway, said: "It will take at least a month to repair, because so much damage was caused."

The company, which employs around 80-100 people from the Lancaster district, could be forced to lay some workers off if the repair work hinders their progress.

'Deathly Hallows' audiobook to accompany book release
It was announced today that the US Deathly Hallows audiobook will be released on July 21st - the same day as the book itself.

The Listening Library (which creates the audiobooks) also said that the story will run over 21 hours and will retail for $79.95. The first print was not announced, but a representative at Random House was quoted as saying it will "definitely" be higher than the HBP print of 635,000.

OOTP soundtrack to be released July 10th
A listing on Amazon.com has revealed that the Order of the Phoenix Soundtrack will be released on July 10th at a price of $18.95. You can pre-order it on Amazon at the link above.

Warner Brothers announced in a press release today that Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are all officially signed on for the Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows films. Each of the three actors, along with Producer David Heyman, were quoted in the release.

From Dan:
"Playing the role of Harry Potter has been an immense privilege, and I look forward to completing the series. I feel a huge sense of loyalty to the character of Harry and the fans who have supported these films over the years. During filming, I have learnt so much, made lots of friends and met people who have changed my life. hey,

i just completed reading the book this morning and i tell you it,s AWESOME!!!!

though i think they should have expanded the book a little more in the last to give a more clear view of the characters and their livelihood.but no complaints!Rowling has done a wonderful job and i really appreciate it.
its hard to accept that there willbe no more of harry potter books .i still crave for more all although i wil have harry potter stories with me to last me for a lifetime but not the suspense that ussually hung over me while turning the pages of the book to read it quickly and know the climax nor the happiness and the excitedness i experienced while reading all the harry potter novels..

Potted Potter

Okay, we know that quite a few of you have read the books hundreds of times, but that doesn't mean you might not need a little refresher on the older Potter tales.
And amazingly, some people haven't read all the books at all yet!

So, read on for a brief round-up of what Harry got up to in years one to five at Hogwarts.

And perhaps most importantly, just who takes on the role of Defence against the Dark Arts teacher every year.

Book 1 - The Philosopher's Stone

First line: Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.
Number of chapters: 17

Plot: Orphan Harry Potter lives with his horrible aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. As he turns 11 he discovers his dad James was a wizard and his mum Lily was a witch.

Harry also finds out that his parents were killed by the most evil wizard of all, Lord Voldemort, and that he survived the attack, taking away Voldemort's powers.

Harry gets to a school for magical kids called Hogwarts. Once there he makes friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger but is enemies with student Draco Malfoy and potions teacher Severus Snape.

During the course of the school year Harry finds out about something called the Philosopher's Stone and a mysterious plot by evil forces to steal it from Hogwarts.

But it's not all good for Harry, as he has to return to the Dursley's home at the end of the school year.

Best bit: Harry discovers he is a rather nifty flier on a broomstick, and is really, really good at the wizard sport of Quidditch.

DADA teacher (and their fate): Professor Quirrell. His body has been inhabited by Voldemort, whose face covers the back of Quirrell's head. In a climactic fight with Harry, he dies and Voldemort disappears.

Big baddie: Voldemort, well his face and spirit anyway, combined with Professor Quirrell's body.

Best Neville bit: When he is awarded the crucial 10 points that wins the House Cup for Gryffindor.

Last line: I'm going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer...

Book 2 - The Chamber of Secrets

First line: Not for the first time, an argument has broken out over the breakfast table at number four, Privet Drive.
Number of chapters: 18

Plot: A house-elf called Dobby is determined to stop Harry returning to Hogwarts for his second year, but thanks to an invisible (well, sort of) car he makes it to school on time.

But he quickly wishes he hadn't, as something nasty is terrorising the pupils and teachers, putting some of them in weird coma-like trances.

It turns out a weird snake thing called a Basilisk is behind the attacks, and although at first Harry gets the blame, it turns out it's getting help from an unexpected source within the school.

Of course it's a Harry Potter book, so the baddie is really Lord Voldemort again (sort of) and Harry manages to defeat him with the help of a very old sword and an extremely loyal feathered friend.

DADA teacher (and their fate): Gilderoy Lockhart. After trying to run away from danger his memory is wiped when a spell goes wrong.

Best Neville moment: Lockhart decides to release Cornish pixies into his classroom. As usual an accident strikes Neville and the pixies leave him hanging from a candelabra.

Last line: And together they walked back through the gateway to the Muggle world.

Book 3 - The Prisoner of Azkaban

First line: Harry was a highly unusual boy in many ways.
Number of chapters: 22

Plot: The person responsible for the deaths of Harry's parents - the fearsome Sirius Black - escapes from the wizard prison of Azkaban and goes after Harry.

Sirius was Harry's godfather and his dad's best friend - as well as being pals with new DADA teacher Professor Lupin at school - and Harry finds out he betrayed his parents to Lord Voldemort.

In a shocking twist it is revealed that it wasn't Sirius after all that was the betrayer, it was another of Harry's dad's friends, Peter Pettigrew.

He can turn into a rat and has been pretending to be Ron's pet Scabbers for years.

But before anyone else finds out the truth Pettigrew escapes, leaving no witnesses to what has happened so Sirius has to escape on a condemned hippogriff called Buckbeak.

DADA teacher (and their fate): Remus Lupin. It's revealed that Lupin is a werewolf, and even though he is a brilliant teacher, he leaves the job.

Best Neville moment: Good old nutty Neville leaves the list of passwords lying around, enabling Sirius Black to break into the Gryffindor common room to get to Harry. Oops!

Last line: And grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon's face, Harry set off towards the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last.

Book 4 - The Goblet of Fire

First line: The villagers of Little Hangleton still called it the 'Riddle House', even though it had been many years since the Riddle family had lived there.
Chapters: 37

Plot: Harry, Ron and Hermione go to watch the final of the Quidditch World Cup and see Ireland defeat Bulgaria, but are impressed by Bulgarian star seeker Viktor Krum.

When they arrive at Hogwarts they find that a special event called the Tri-Wizard tournament is taking place, featuring a champion from Hogwarts and two other schools.

Krum is the champion from one school, and Harry becomes a second Hogwarts champion without even entering it.

Harry and the other Hogwarts champion, Cedric Diggory, win the tournament, but Diggory is then killed by Lord Voldemort's supporters and Harry is used to bring the Dark Lord back to his full powers.

DADA teacher (and their fate): Mad-Eye Moody, except it isn't. It's actually Voldemort supporter Barty Crouch junior using a polyjuice potion to disguise himself as Moody.

Best Neville moment: We hear that Neville melted his sixth cauldron in Potions and got a detention from Snape. Neville then came back in a state of "nervous collapse" after the professor made him disembowel a barrel of horned toads. Yuk!

Last line: As Hagrid had said, what would come would come, ... and he would have to meet it when it did.

Book 5 - The Order of the Phoenix

First line: The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive.
Chapters: 38

Plot: Dementors turn up at Privet Drive and Harry is forced to use magic to protect himself and Dudley.

But he's called to a trial by the Ministry of Magic who want to expel him for using magic outside Hogwarts.

Then Harry is taken to Grimmauld Place - Sirius' family home where finds out about the Order of the Phoenix - a group of adults made up of people like the Weasleys, Sirius, Snape and Tonks - who have formed to fight the recently-resurrected Voldemort.

Harry is finally let off at his trial but it's a close call.

They go back to Hogwarts and meet pupil loony Luna Lovegood and evil teacher Professor Umbridge.

Harry and his friends set up a secret group called Dumbledore's Army to help the adults fight Voldemort.

Throughout all this, Harry goes on a date with Cho Chang, but their relationship goes wrong.

It ends with a big showdown between Harry and his friends, and Voldemort and his supporters at the Ministry of Magic, when Sirius is tragically killed. Harry ends up facing Voldemort but Dumbledore steps in and saves the day.

Later Dumbledore explains all about the 'prophecy' to Harry - which was made just before Harry was born. It said a boy born at the end of July would be the only person who could vanquish the Dark Lord so he tried to kill Harry. Neville was also born then, but Voldemort believes it was Harry.

It ends with all the 'good' people preparing to fight Voldemort, who everyone knows is now definitely back.

DADA teacher (and their fate): The VERY evil Professor Umbridge. She is eventually taken off by the centaurs in the forest, traumatised and leaves Hogwarts.

Best Neville moment: When Neville finally comes into his own and masters spells in the Dumbledore's Army sessions, desperate to avenge his parents' injuries at the wand of Voldemort's supporters.

Last line: Instead, he smiled, raised a hand in farewell, turned around led the way out of the station towards the sunlit street, with Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudley hurrying along in his wake.

Book 6 - The Half-Blood Prince

First line: It was nearing midnight and the Prime Minister was sitting alone in his office, reading a long memo that was slipping through his brain without leaving the slightest trace of meaning behind.
Chapters: 30

Plot: Harry is asked by Professor Dumbledore to help him attract a new teacher to Hogwarts. Horace Slughorn is the man, but once they arrive at Hogwarts, Slughorn is made Potions master. Professor Snape takes up the role of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.

As the new term starts Harry comes into possession of a potions textbook with lots of notes written in it, made by someone calling themselves the Half-Blood Prince. The tips help Harry do really well in potions lessons.

There are lots of reports of Death Eaters attacking people, and at one point Ron Weasley is poisoned.

Dumbledore begins special lessons with Harry about Voldemort's past. Harry is told that Lord Voldemort split his soul into seven chunks and hid six of them inside objects, called Horcruxes. The final part is inside Voldemort himself.

Two of the Horcruxes have been destroyed so far, including the diary from The Chamber of Secrets.

Harry and Dumbledore leave to track down another Horcrux, a locket once owned by Salazar Slytherin. In the course of getting it Dumbledore is very badly hurt.

When they return, the Dark Mark is hovering over Hogwarts. A fight is taking place inside the castle between the Death Eaters and Harry's friends and in the course of it Dumbledore is killed by Snape using the Avada Kedavra curse.

While he is escaping Snape reveals to Harry that he is the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry has been using his textbook all year.

When Harry gets to Dumbledore's body he finds the locket, but on opening it discovers that it is a fake and someone else has got there first, leaving a note from someone with the initials RAB.

Harry decides that he will not return to school for his final year, instead saying he will search for, and destroy, the other Horcruxes so that Voldemort can finally be killed.

DADA teacher (and their fate): Finally, it's Professor Severus Snape. He's been after the job for years and has finally got it. As for his fate, well, at the close of the book he seems set to rejoin Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Best Neville moment: Tough one. Neville doesn't have a huge role in the Half-Blood Prince, but does take part in the battle at the end inside Hogwarts. We also find out that perhaps Neville isn't as hopeless at magic as we thought. He has a new wand in book six and we discover he's been using his dad's until now, which may explain why his spell casting has been so unpredictable in the past.
