Making a spectacle

We hear that Dulhan actor Sharad Malhotra is riding high on the success of winning his Best Debutant award at a recently held ceremony. However we don't understand why the actor was seen wearing glares throughout his stay in Mauritius. Was it the bright sunlight or the fear of being stalked by local fans? Funnily, Sharad even walked on stage to receive his award wearing his glares! We think he needs to get those giant frames off his face and show us what's behind that once in a while.

Divyanka Tripathi and Sharad Malhotra the lead pair of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann seem to have acquired starry airs and are giving a tough time to their producer. An actor from Banoo Main Teri Dulhann on condition of anonymity says, “Divyanka and Sharad did not complete shooting their Monday episode (October 1) until the same morning. On Saturday, they walked out of the set midway through the shoot. On Sunday, they did not answer their respective phones and did not shoot on Sunday. Hence, the shooting had to be completed on Monday morning, to be telecast the same evening. It gave stress to everyone.”

Our source also says that Divyanka and Sharad often report late on the sets and when the shot is ready, they don’t come out of the make-up room for a long time.

When contacted, Pradeep the production Head of the serial says, “Things have gone a bit haywire after Divyanka and Sharad returned from Mauritius. They have been indisposed and therefore, we haven’t shot in time. But I hope it will settle down.”

However, Divyanka has a different version. She says “The fault lies in the production house (Shakuntalam Telefilms). Sharad and I are committed actors. I have spoken to Shyam (producer) about the same he also agrees with me. These guys on the set have no priority agenda on what and when to shoot. They don’t seem to complete their work in the stipulated time.”

About the delay of work she says, “On Saturday, Sharad and I were made to wait for more than six hours and finally at 9 pm we shot a scene. We both had high temperature and had yet reported for shooting. At 10 pm, we were told to pack-up. But a little later they said they wanted to re-shoot a scene. By this time we had changed and were ready to leave.”

Divyanka also confirms that they refused to shoot the next day because of ill health. “Both Sharad and I just couldn’t shoot. We needed some rest,” she adds.

Sharad was unavailable for comment, but when asked about their relationship, Divyanka says, “Sharad and I are very good friends. Yes, we stand by each other a lot but shouldn’t we actors support each other especially when things are so mismanaged?”

Manish Naggdev, aka Chinu of Banoo Main Teri Dulhan, is rumoured to have an off screen affair with his co-star Snehal Sahai who plays his wife Shalu in the show. We wonder how much truth is there to it.

Manish says this in his defence, "We are not seeing each other, I am quite aware of these rumours, but I think when the on screen chemistry works, these stories are bound to arise. We've been appreciated for our work, but apart from that there is nothing more."

Well Manish, we shall just take your word for now!

Sharad Malhotra aka Saagar got so carried away while shooting a scene for Dulhann that both he and the unit members ended up in tears. The scene was such that his illiterate wife Vidya has learnt English.

Describing the experience Sharad says, “The song Bebasi Dard Ka Aalam from Baabul was playing at that time which made me really emotional and now this has become my favorite song. I, Divyanka and many others on the sets started crying. Also, I was suffering from viral fever so that helped in a way.”

Sharad Malhotra aka Saagar from Dulhann had promised his mother that he would take her on a foreign trip if he won at the Gold awards. And keeping his word, he is going on a Singapore trip with mom Neera on October 20.

Says Sharad, “She is quite excited to come with me. She will be arriving in Kolkatta from Mumbai on the 12th. I am happy that I have kept my promise.”
Sharad’s mother herself says, “I have just started packing my bags for Mumbai. I am also discussing my travel plans with my friends here in Kolkatta. Let’s hope everything goes as per our plan.”

The emotional mother adds, “It been a year since I have not met my son so I am really looking forward to it. If I get a chance to meet the Dulhann team it would be really nice. Divyanka looks like a very sweet girl to me.”

We hope Sharad and mom Neera make the trip and have a blast.

On screen: Saagar-Vidya (Banno Main Teri Dulhann)

Arguably the cutest couple in the telly land, they have been playing husband and wife for a year now.

Off-screen: Sharad Malhotra – Divyanka Tripathi

What they say…

Sharad Malhotra: I think it is too early to comment on this. We know we are the best couple on television. Divyanka is very sweet but off-screen we quarrel a lot as both of us are stubborn. I have known her since Cinestars Ki Khoj where we both were contestants so it’s been quite long.

Divyanka Tripathi: No comments. He is a very nice co-actor and very supportive but at the same time very hard working.

Time for tears

Here’s why actors on the sets of ‘Banoo Main Teri Dulhann’ got a little carried away

When actors cry off-screen, it’s more than often because of their inter-personal fights. Seldom does a unit cry or goes glum over something that may have happened on-screen. And the unit of ‘Banoo Main Teri Dulhann’ (Zee) witnessed just that.

Recently, the unit was shooting for a scene where Vidya (played by Divyanka Tripathi) comes out of her shell and for the first time takes a stand for herself. Not just that, it was also the day when Vidya would surprise her husband Sagar (played by Sharad Malhotra) by telling him that she has learnt to speak in English. While the scene was being shot, Sharad and Divyanka got so carried away, that they shed tears.

Sharad says, “It was an emotional scene, where Sagar misunderstands Vidya and she makes him realise that he was wrong. The song ‘Bebasi Dard Ka Aalam’ was being played in the background. This just added to our gloomy mood and our eyes became wet.”

Sharad adds, “People have appreciated this scene a lot. Even our performances were talked about.” Ismail for his part says, “That day, despite having about a 100 people on the sets (who had come to shoot for the party scene), the set was at a standstill. Everyone got so involved in the scene. The actors were so overwhelmed that they shed tears and the unit members seemed to have forgotten to speak!”.

Divyanka Tripathi
(Vidya in Banoo Main Teri Dulhan)

I'm not like my character Vidya. I don't believe in idol worship because according to me Bhagwan sarv-vyapi hain. Though I fast during the festival of Teej for 24 hours - from sunrise to sunrise next morning. This fast is nirjala (without even drinking water). As a matter of habit I fast on the on the first and the last days of Navaratri.

The lead stars of Dulhann Sharad Malhotra and Divyanka Tripathi recently attended the Zee Carnival in Singapore with their moms. Both actors visited the place for the second time. Earlier, they had gone to shoot for the serial.
Sharad says, “I was really excited as for the first time I was taking my mom to Singapore. At the carnival night, the female fans were so crazy that they were falling all over me as if I was SRK. My mom was amazed and jokingly said, “Hmmm my son is gone now”. At the same time she was very happy that she met Priyanka Chopra and Zayed Khan. I was there for 3 days and really enjoyed myself.”

An equally excited Divyanka reveals, “It was fantastic. I felt like I was in India only as there were so many NRIs. They asked me a lot about the serial as they watch more Indian soaps compared to films.”

Sharing some of her memorable experiences, she says, “There is a place in Singapore called Clarke Quay where there are many Indians. They kept asking me about Vidya’s character. Even my mom was very happy to see my daughter’s popularity but I dearly missed my daddy. According to the organizers, there were more fans who came to see us even though film stars were present.”

Divyanka faces the heat

Divyanka Tripathi, who plays Vidya in Banno Main Teri Dulhann, had such a touch time shooting in the sweltering hot sun for a scene, she ended up in tears.

Describing the tough experience, Divyanka says, “It was very difficult for me to perform an emotional scene. I had to cry very loudly as my on-screen husband has died but the scorching heat was troubling me a lot. The sunlight was coming directly in my eyes.”

Ironically, she ended up crying not because of Sagar’s (her husband) death but because of the heat. “We were shooting at a helipad near Film City which was very hot. On one hand, it helped me to perform my scene with perfection but at the same time it was torturing me as well,” reveals the actress.

Divyanka did the shot in two takes due to some technical issues. She adds, “I was having lemon juice every hour so that I don’t feel dehydrated. That definitely helped.”

On the serial front, what will be Vidya’s plan of action after her husband’s death? “She will be taking revenge. How… that you have to wait and watch,” she signs off.

Dulhann co-stars miss Divyanka, Sharad

Divyanka Tripathi (Vidya) and Sharad Malhotra (Saagar), the lead stars of Dulhann attended the Zee Carnival in Singapore (October 19 to 22) with their moms. During this period their co-stars dearly missed the two and are eagerly waiting to have them back on the show. We spoke to some of them.

Kamya Punjabi (Sindoora)

“Now we are like family so it’s natural that I missed them very much. But in the mean time Sindoora is planning to torture Vidya again (laughs)."

Surender Kaur (Maaji)

“They were out of action for just 5 days but it seems like I have not seen them for 5 months. We have been shooting for well over a year so now both are like my children. They are very sweet and affectionate and I have developed a special bonding with them.”

Manish Naggdev (Chinu)

“We share the same make-up room so when they were not on the sets I had to be alone in the make-up room. We usually roam around during the breaks and these 5 days I really missed them. I wish I could have also gone with them to Singapore.”

Jaya Bhattacharya (Buaji)

“It’s just been three months that I have been part of Dulhann but both Saagar and Vidya have become my good friends. Both are very sweet by nature. I really missed them.”

Snehal Sahai (Shaloo)

“I especially missed Divyanka because most of my funny scenes are with her. I think both will begin shooting from Tuesday evening so I’m eagerly waiting for them to arrive on the sets. Then as before there will be excitement on the sets, in the make-up room and during lunch time.”

Well, that’s some bonding…And is reflected on screen as well.
