Interview of Rajat Tokas in The Hindu newspaper
Fighting with lions
ANUJ KUMAR
Meet the youngster who played the role of young Prithviraj.
Playing the prince: Rajat Tokas
After Shah Rukh Khan he is probably the only actor who floors both the mothers and daughters with equal ease. Ask this to the cute Rajat Tokas and he blushes. “I don’t know but the letters I get from my female fans make me feel that they think I am old enough to feel the emotions I portray on screen.” A student of Std. X at New Delhi’s Hope Hall Foundation, R.K. Puram, 14-year-old Rajat is etched in public memory as young Prithiviraj Chauhan. Initia lly roped in by the Sagars for just three episodes, Rajat went on to play the character for 200 episodes. “My role was limited to the episodes where Prithiviraj learns to fire shabdbhedi baan and fights with the lion. But apparently the public liked me so much that the producers kept on increasing my role.”
Maths rules
He might have done a historical but his favourite subject is mathematics. “I didn’t read about Prithiviraj before enacting the role. I went by what my director told me. As I had no preconceived notions, I believe it brought spontaneity to my acting.”
An above average student, Rajat says, “The kind of competition we have in academics these days, only the best get their chosen vocation. I felt I am good at acting so I should focus on it and keep the studies going.”
However, because of the strenuous shooting schedules, Rajat admits he has missed out on studies. “I have a lot to catch up but I will manage. Now that my role in Prithvi is over, I am concentrating on studies. In the interim, I also missed out on celebrating my birthday. I want to spend some time with my family.”
Good diet
As for his physique which makes him look older than his age, Rajat shares he doesn’t exercise too much. “It is just the effect of milk and milk products.”
Rajat avers fame hasn’t changed him. “I am the same for my friends and family. But many others have changed towards me.”
After the break, Rajat will soon be seen in another period-serial, “Dharam Veer”.

The young Rajat Tokas had a bit of a bad luck recently when he was rehearsing for an action sequence for NDTV Imagine's Dharam Veer. It was a kick sequence and the guy he was rehearsing with turned around and gave a kick on Rajat's lower back. The kick was harder than expected and as a result, Rajat is on bed with a hairline fracture. He will be on complete bedrest for the next three weeks atleast. Well, guess Rajat will be out of action for quite some time, literally!

NDTV Imagine gets popular
Its content may not be as imaginative as the NDTV Imagine bosses had promised, but the channel certainly seems to have the got thumbs up from viewers in the first week of its launch. The channel which threw open its prime time band with four hours of programming from January 21, has notched up an impressive 55 GRPs (group rating points) and 1.7 per cent channel share in the first week. In fact, it has outperformed all GE channel launches in the last four years. What’s more, according to TAM date for week 4 of 2008, NDTV Imagine ranked third in weekday prime time – Monday to Thursday – in the general entertainment space.
Ramayan has proved to be NDTV Imagine’s trump card. The great mythological epic has delivered good numbers from the markets which matter most for any GE channel — the Hindi heartland. The first episode of Ramayan rated 1.8 TVR. In the key Hindi speaking markets of UP and MP (10 million-plus towns) the show averaged more than 5 TVR. Other shows like Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan’ and period drama Dharam Veer have also delivered decent numbers. Says Shailja Kejriwal, creative and programming head of NDTV Imagine, “These are very good numbers and we are delighted with the response for our shows.”.”
In this overcrowded general entertainment space, content alone is not enough to drive eyeballs. Good marketing strategies and strong distribution contribute a lot too.

'This is surely my last TV performance' - Rajat Tokas
Rajat Tokas, the very successful actor who portrays the role of Dharam in NDTV Imagine's 'Dharam Veer' speaks his heart out on his capability as an actor, his future and much more..
It seems success is getting to Rajat Tokas's head. This junior Prithviraj Chauhan and now Veer of NDTV Imagine’s ‘Dharam Veer’ is talking as if he has become a very established star. “Who else has got the best actor award at the age of 16?”, he asks?
Rajat says that he is very lucky to have got two completely different roles. "While Prithvi went by the book, Veer is ready to cut corners as long as the end purpose is served", states the actor. He has no issues sharing share screen space with Vikrant Massey. “Veer is still the main lead. The only thing is that he is doing it for somebody, while Prithiviraj was working for himself”, opines the actor.
Talking further about his Dharamveer co-star he says, “Vikrant and I share a cordial relationship. We are neither enemies nor are we good friends. I have only one funda in life and that is to work. You have to slog very hard to retain the number one position”, he claimed.
One question which really irked Rajat was why he is sticking only to mythos and period stories. “I have got success and love here, so why should I do something else? And let’s face it, you would not have been speaking to me had I not achieved a certain status in the industry”.
He also dismissed the idea of doing a reality show, “I want to be a lead actor
and not an anchor or dancer, that I should enter this genre”.
Post this NDTV Imagine period show, Rajat has got his eyes firmly on major bollywood roles. “I am nursing few injuries at the moment. Once they get all right, I will start pitching for films. This will be my last TV appearance”, he asserted.

` I am a director 's actor '
Says teenage actor Rajat Tokas during a rapidfire interview with AT
PRERNA SHAH
Times News Network
Television's teen icon Rajat Tokas has been there, done that. Having been part of Prithviraj Chauhan, and thereby gained quite a bit of popularity, he's now like a pro when it comes to playing Veer in DharamVeer. We caught him in between his shoot in Vadodara and asked, but this self assured teenager first wants to clarify that, "this serial isn't mythological. Any thing that has costumes, and kings and battles is falsely assumed to be so," says Rajat.
Point taken. So how does he see himself in this new serial? Rajat sounds very confident when he says, "I am a director's actor. I can get into any role, wear many shoes, I can be moulded as per a director's wish. That is my strength." And he dismisses the fact that while he played the lead in Prithviraj Chauhan, he's the second lead here. "Both the characters are central to plot. I am not playing the second fiddle at all," says Rajat.
How does it feel to be a teen icon, which Rajat has become? "I think icons should be those who do something real, outside the purview of their work. I mean, for instance, people who do something good to help others. Those are the real icons," says Rajat. He confides that he tries to help whenever he can: "My parents asked me to sponsor the education of some kids back in Delhi and I agreed. One must stock up on good karma," says Rajat half jokingly. How does he manage his studies? "I try, only the results will tell whether I have been successful or not," comes the humorous answer.
And he signs off by saying that the real Rajat is "a guy who loves doing masti, fooling around and is careless in a nice sort of a way!"

AAJ TAK
the aaj tak team was on DV sets at baroda......
it was asked 2 rajat & vikrant about DV....they both were very happy.....rajat told about his character of veer .....then it was told that dharam & veer r not only brothers & frends on screen but also off-screen
yes frends, rajat & vikrant are veryyyyyyyyyy close frends in real life also......they r like BROTHERS!!!
vikrant was sitting in front of the mirror & was getting ready for the shoots & rajat was putting his hands on vikrant's shoulders & was leaning on him & was eating chewing gum
then vikrant told that when the promos of DV were shown, their fans thought that there is some misunderstanding between them & fans rang up to confirm whether nething was wrong between them but rajat & vikrant used to laugh after listening to those rumours.....rajat said that shooting ke pehle koi mujhe kehta tha ki vikrant tumhare baare mein ye kehta hai aur vikrant ko kehte the ki main uske baare mein ye woh kehta hoon lekin i don't care kyunki main vikrant ko bahut achi tarah se jaanta hoon
they both were speaking in hindi & english both....& believe me,vikrant's english speaking style was awesome
he said that they r the best of friends & rajat is 5 & a half yrs younger to him so,rajat is like his younger brother
then rajat said that"lekin main isse ek baat ke liye bahut gussa hoon.main isse hamesha kehta rehat hoon ki ye mere room mein shift ho jaye taaki hum dono ek doosre ko aur kareeb se jaan payen......"
so,this means that they both r very close frends & r like brothers in real life
now,they showed RT & MC
the background music was of jodhaa akbar....how soothing
well, they had given mughda aka shera of DV a title that is"veer ki heer"
mughda was asked about her character in DV.
she said that:"i am very happy that i've been chosen to be a part of DV & to play the role of shera.....shera is a tomboy but she is a girl frm heart.....shera is a dakoo but a very sweet dakoo ....while playing this role i feel that shera rules the world ....after lovey dovey sanyogita its dashing shera." mughda also thanked her fans for sending her birthday wishes.
then rajat & mughda were standing together & mughda told that prithvi aur sanyogita ke baad ab ham veer aur shera ka kirdaar nibha rahe hain.....aapne hame jo pyaar prithvi-sanyogita ke kirdaar mein diya tha hum chahte hain ki aap woh pyaar hame veer-shera ke kirdaar ke liye bhi de
rajat said that hum aapko entertain karte rahenge aur aap hame aaka pyaar dete rahiye
last year hame star parivaar awards mein best jodi ka award mila tha....hame bahut khushi hui ki aapko hamari prithvi-sanyogita ki jodi itni pasand aayi.....
rajat said"main aapko ye bhi bata doon ki main abhi sirf 14 saal ka hoon aur 15 hone wala hoon....itni kam umar mein mujhe popular actor ka award bhi mila....isliye main bahut khush hoon aur proud feel kar raha hoon kyunki iss category mujhse bade bade actors the lekin award mujhe mila.....14 saal mein best actor ka award milna bahut badi baat hoti hai.
"bass app hum sabko issi tarah pyaar dete rahiye aur hum aapko entertain karte rahenge"

JIYA JALE WITH DHARAM!!
[23 Apr 2008]
WHAT’S BREWING BETWEEN SRITI JHA AND VIKRANT MASSEY?
With backstabbing and cold-shouldering being a sight galore, close friendships and camaraderie amongst people in the same field is a heartening sight. While stumbling across some hearsay and perhaps an irrational bit of gossip, we found one such couple on television who are the thickest of friends; although they aren’t really a couple in the traditional sense.
The stunning Sriti Jha of Jiya Jale and the amiable Vikrant Massey of Dharam Veer are a duo, who started their careers together with Disney Channel’s teen show Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, which also gave a break to stars like Jay Bhanushali.
From our sources, we got to know that the two started their careers simultaneously, have been together for the past many years, and have been inseparable since then. The question has been on everyone’s lips, but the answer has been always an open-ended guess. Are the two really a couple? Or is this another mere story of simple friendship that rumour mongers have twisted and tainted?
It seems that we aren’t the only ones with the question on our minds. To get the real dope behind this buzz, we spoke to both the people concerned. When we called Vikrant, the first thing he said (even before we asked him anything about Sriti) was, “No, I am not dating Sriti Jha.”
Obviously, the question has been lingering on his mind and he seems to be tired of all the speculations regarding Sriti and his relationship. “We are extremely close friends. I know her from the time of our first pilot together, for the show Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, in Delhi. Born and brought up in Mumbai, I was new to Delhi, so it was Sriti who showed me around the place. That’s how we became friends,” he explains.
This acquaintance began on the auditions of their first serial and blossomed even more when the base of the show was shifted from Delhi to Mumbai, where they shot the serial. “When she came to Mumbai, she was new and so I showed her around the place,” says Vikrant.
Apparently, there seems to be not just two but three people involved in this close companionship; the third being their co-star Maanvi Gagroo who played Ambika Gill (Bikki) in Dhoom…. “The three of us are best friends,” he maintains.
That’s the version given to us by Vikrant when asked about Sriti. Friends are nothing but one soul in two bodies and Sriti proves it right as she voices the same opinion as her friend Vikrant, “We met on the sets of Dhoom…; we are good friends. We often hang out together when Vikrant comes back from his shoots in Baroda, where he shoots for Dharam Veer. But that’s it. There is nothing more to it. I am certainly not dating him or for that matter anyone else.”
Both the parties have fervently rubbished the rumours and have given their justifications. But when has there been any smoke without fire? Certainly there must be something more than just friendly indications that must have led to all these theories. “We spend a lot of time together. Such rumours have started because Sriti is a big star now. Many a time, she calls me up and tells me when she hears such things about us,” says the boy involved.
What’s more, there is also a twist to this story. Exasperated by all the untoward gossip, Vikrant has admitted to Showtime that he is dating someone, but it’s definitely not Sriti. His love interest for the past six-and-a-half years has been a certain school friend, whose name he wishes not to disclose, for personal reasons. As for Sriti, she is busy concentrating on her career and is not in a steady relationship.
Though they deny any sort of a romantic liaison, rumours of them being a couple are certainly the talk of the town and it’s going to take a lot more than just quotes like ‘We are close friends’ to keep impatient tongues from wagging. In any case, all those who thought that friendship between a guy and girl in the glamour world couldn’t be platonic, could take a cue or two from Sriti and Vikrant!

"He's just 16 and seems quite confident..
overly so. Rajat Tokas, who plays Veer in NDTV Imagine's Dharam Veer, entered the tube two years ago.
He played the younger Prithviraj Chauhan in the show. The character became so popular that the producers extended the period they had allotted to it before the character grew up. Keep going Rajat claims his will power keeps him going. As for his confidence, it's because of the recognition and couple of awards that he has won.. in stiff competition with actors like Ronit Roy.
Prithviraj Chauhan and now DharamVeer. This teenager hasn't done any fluffy roles at all.. Rajat doesn't even wait for the question to finish before jumping in to say, "I've seen so many actors play dumb in teenybopper shows." He cringes at the thought of being in a regular family drama. But he wouldn't mind portraying a strong character in one. Blush time Rajat makes it clear that popularity doesn't mean everything to him. He is currently pursuing his education through correspondence. Mention his fan following and Rajat turns red. Ask him about his love life and he turns a deeper red. "No way . I'm not that type of guy," he grins. "I'll do the right thing at the right age."

Hot Prince Plays it cool! Fifteen-year-old Rajat Tokas, who rules the hearts of kids across the country, feels shy when any female fan approaches him. In an exclusive interview with AT, the young star talks about his love for acting, the importance of education and having no time for a girlfriend This 15-year-old already has a huge female fan following. But that hardly calls for surprise as Rajat Tokas, who plays the character of the young Prithviraj Chauhan in a popular television serial, is a very talented child artiste, besides being good-looking. Rajat started his journey in the world of acting when he was just five years old. “I started with a serial on Doordarshan and spent two years doing theatre. I came to Mumbai only two years back,” says this down-toearth youngster. He goes on to add that while getting a break as Prithviraj Chauhan was not really a piece of cake, his confidence did not deceive him: “I gave some 20 auditions for this particular character before I made it.” Rajat’s popularity has stemmed from the character of the young Prithviraj Chauhan that he portrays on screen. But, how similar is the real Rajat to the character he plays? “I am very moody. I would not pain myself if I am not in a right mood, whereas the character is very head strong and determined,” he replies. That success has not gone to his head is obvious when the IXth standard student remarks that he knows the importance of education and tries to maintain a balance between studies and shoots. He says, “I don’t get time to go to school and so I am studying through a correspondence course. As of now I want to concentrate on my career but I also know that education is important and thus I will not leave my studies half-way.” Interestingly, Rajat has a huge female fan following, which he says, makes him uncomfortable. “I feel happy being just a teenager and I feel very shy and strange too,” laughs the young actor with child-like innocence. What about a girlfriend? “I don’t even get time to meet my mother as I go home only once or twice in six months. So where is the time to make girlfriends?” he asks. As talk veers towards family, he is quick to say that the credit of his success goes to his parents: “My father has left his job and accompanies me to all my shoots. They (my parents) have dedicated their life to my career, and I fully acknowledge their hardwork in my success.” When not shooting, Rajat loves to sleep. “Whenever I get time, I sleep for hours. Else, I play football, which I love,” he says. This young lad is also a swimming champion. “I have won a gold medal at a National swimming championship,” he adds. Ask him about his screen idol, and he says that every actor has something good to give: “I try and learn those things from all actors that they are good at,” says the little bundle of talent. The biggest money-spinner in the history of television is all set to rule your evenings. Sagar Arts has decided to have the most lavish set possible for Prithviraj Chauhan ~ Dharti Ka Veer Yoddha ~ sprawled over 10,000 square feet, employs 150 workers and involves a few crore. The serial, as you know, showcases every part of Chauhan’s life ~ birth, marriage, wars and so on. You have read about the historical character and his might time and again in school. But how will it feel to meet Little Chauhan, like Chhota Birbal or Little Archie? Rajat Tokas plays the role of young Chauhan and thinks he can change the course of history.Currently studying in standard IX, Rajat is excited for shootings to begin in full swing (for his roles). “I always wanted to play the role. He is my favourite historical character. Recently I was showed what a raja looks like, how he walks around and what he wears. In fact, friends have stopped calling me Rajat and instead call me Prithvi. The historic character has taught me to be kind, brave and not to take anything for granted,” says Rajat. While on the sets, Rajat says he walks around as himself but while taking a shot, he turns into Prithviraj Chauhan and dons his seriousness and aura. The Delhi-based student continues, “My standard IX examinations are over and so, I have nothing much to do. I read everyday and study. Only on Sunday am I allowed to watch television. My parents are very strict about education. Now that I am in Mumbai, they make sure I spend my time with books in the evening.”
