Television’s first teen superstar Rajat Tokas shares vignettes from his life…

All of 15 and a superstar already. Rajat Tokas who became a prime time heartthrob with Prithviraj Chauhan a year and half ago, even knows how to behave like one. He comes out with politically correct replies, tells you smugly how his pictures are available online on several websites and seems to be basking in his small screen glory for the time being. Rajat returns in yet another fantasy-historical Dharamveer (NDTV Imagine) and he says he’s hoping, “Dharamveer becomes a TRPtopper as well, because I don’t want people to remember me as a one-show wonder.” Delhi teen Rajat started off as an actor in Sai Baba a few years ago where he had a sixmonth stint. “Ramanand Sagarji selected me for the role. But for Prithviraj Chauhan I had to clear the auditions and was chosen over hundreds of hopefuls. The rest as they say is history,” he says.
Parental support is very important for a youngster and Rajat feels his “supportive” parents have “helped” him a lot. “They told me that I would have to work hard in life, and I believe that is the key to success, even on television.” And do his studies get affected by the demands of his acting career? “Well, my board exams are going on and I am still working. I have got a hairline fracture in my back but I am working and studying. I need to complete school too. It is very difficult to juggle studies and television. There are times when I shoot non-stop for days on end, but then you have to struggle in life,” he avers.
Doesn’t he ever feel like slowing down a bit, taking a short break? “I love my work and the challenges it offers. I have set some goals for myself and I consider myself lucky that I am able to work towards some of them so early in life,” he chips in.
Success, Rajat says has not gone to his head. Winning trophies and awards as best actor in leading awards ceremonies hasn’t quite changed him as a person, “I don’t think of myself as a success. I just enjoy my work and derive satisfaction from it.”
For the time being, no reality shows either for Rajat. He claims that he’s been offered a few, but would rather “grow as an actor first. I don’t want to participate in the show just for the sake of money. However, if they call me as a guest on such shows, why not?”
Rajat also enjoys plenty of female attention off-screen. And he sure revels in it. “I remember when I got hurt sometime ago, my female fans even went to temples to pray for me. Some even got food for me while I was in hospital,” he says.
Do movies tempt him? The reply is oh-so predictable, “If good characters and scripts come my way, why not?” says Rajat.
What is his definition of an ‘ideal’ girl? “A beautiful, simple girl who talks sensibly, because I am quite mature for my age,” he quips.
Okay, so all you girls who have drooled over Rajat, you know what to do to win his heart!
